The Silly Revolution

A few nights ago I took a moment to soak my eyes in the Moon's glow, and before I knew it, I was deeply invigorated and this song was practically writing itself. I've been existing nocturnally since then, dialing in countless thousands of digital brushstrokes to this silver stereophonic rainbow. I included some soul-soothing vocals and violin recordings from Madelion Moondrop﻿, as well as some of my own vocals, and a whole lot of delicate percussion made from sounds recorded in the mountains here in Colorado.

This piece got me thinking about musical space in a very interesting way. I spent a good portion of the process rhythmically slicing up some of the atmospheric and textural layers to interact in various ways with the percussion, envisioning the percussion as tree limbs and the diced up chords as the beams of iridescent moonlight that they split.

This morning, at the same moment I was listening to the finished file for the first time, the sun began coming over the horizon. That kind of thing has a way of putting a smile on my face.

Naturally, it seems very fitting to me that I should make it available to you while the Moon is in the phase that she's in, since I feel that for best results, one should consider listening while appreciating her ethereal splendor. :)

Happy Holidays to you all, here is a gift of the musical kind. This is a mash up of some songs that have really moved me. Also it is kind of a sound science experiment, its amazing and uncanny how some of these songs go together.

The first combination is my favorite song by Lusine "Twilight" mixed with Kollektiv Turmstrasse's "Schwindelig". Then we move onto the beautiful music of Akara with the song "Gelfling" mixed with Welder's "A Greener Land". There was hardly any editing done to combine these songs, its almost as if they were ment to be combined! 

Next we have Stimming's house masterpiece, "The Kiss" mixed with the intro to Auditory Canvas's "Mystery Trip". Eventually "The Kiss" takes over and we move onto one of my favorite producers Kettel, with the song "Shinusob" coming up under the Stimming's track. 

Prefuse 73 has an album in which he remixes a bunch of songs by the organic electronica group "The Books". Here is "Pagina Cinco" mixed with Eskmo's "Hypercolor" as it appears on the "Ancestor Mix". Soon after the songs converge, we have the timing of "Hypercolor" take over for an intersting effect. And to bring it all home we have Slacker's "Start a New Life" mixed with Eskmo's continuing "Hypercolor".  

I urge you all to check out these artists. They make incredible music. And if you enjoy their tracks, let them know and buy their music.

Long-dawning long-player by Pacific Northwest producer Hunter P. Thompson
aka Akasha System spins a suite of remote outpost rhythms and old-growth
electronics variously inspired by “days and nights spent in the forests,” “long
stretches of back road trails,” and “sitting alone under moss-covered trees.” It’s club
music for misty mornings, towering redwood canopies, and overcast skies above
uninhabited terrain: Echo Earth.
Recorded across the fall of 2018 at Thompson’s lava-lit Portland home studio, the
album’s eight tracks trace cyclical arcs and seasonal tides, churning and yearning,
meditative motion patterns flickering like holograms projected in the rain.
Following key appearances on Elestial Sound, Neo Violence, and New
Information, Echo Earth embodies all Akasha’s most evocative and elusive sonic
strategies in a nuanced naturalist landscape of rust and radar, information and
isolation, wires woven like roots beneath ferns.
