For this our sixth Botanas single series we have the pleasure to present two stunning original tracks and one beautiful edit from Canadian producer Oonga (who you might have spotted on our Mare Insularum compilation). Oonga is a DJ/producer from Montreal who works with Stonetree Records. 

Opener El Caracol is one of the most personal tracks the artist has ever made. It is based on a poem written by Eli´s (Oonga) dad and dedicated to him. It was written after the two of them had a really deep conversation about hidden pain and then months later his dad showed him the words, and he was extremely moved and so created this beautiful track. 

This inspiration came at the same time as Oonga's exposure to the neo-folkloric slow cumbia tech sound while travelling. He put the two together and this special Botanas was born. His dear friend Ana adapted the words into Spanish and sang the melodies (as well as doing the art). 

Oonga´s music captured our ears right away and these three tracks are the perfect soundtrack to the end of the summer for those of us in the norther hemisphere or to welcome the end of the Winter and brighter times for all those down south!

Organic-Electronic remixes inspired by the sensitive and mystical spaces between land and sea.

When Atlanta-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Piper Street Sound, aka Matt Mansfield, created his intimate sonic landscape Barrier Island (2017) he drew inspiration from Georgia's Sea Islands.  The EP saw the producer's kaleidoscopic talents through the prism of Georgia's crown jewel, the beautiful but imperiled Cumberland Island. Barrier Island focused on water and nature, displaying Mansfield's signature production style; electronic timbres woven into dubby organic instrumentation and naturalistic sounds.

Now an array of like-minded producers have remixed his work, and brought their own colors to bear, taking the source material into new spaces. Featuring remixes by Kaleema, Jin Yerei, El Buho, Andres Oddone, and Santi of Santi & Tugce. Most have chosen the album's final set-piece al-lu-vi-al, an exploration into dripping rhythms and splashes of Dub-infused spring reverb. These remixes provide book-ends and centerpiece to the work, with tunes Georgic and ZikaZikaZika rounding out the set list.

Cumberland Island, the inspiration for this EP series, is one of the last undeveloped barrier islands on the East Coast. Once owned in turns by the Spanish military, plantation-based agricultural concerns, and Gilded Age robber barons, the bulk of the island was gifted in perpetuity to the National Parks Department to remain a wild, undeveloped National Seashore in 1972. Cumberland Island is at the time of this writing in danger of being carved up and developed. Disruption of the aquatic and avian species and their food sources that season on and around Cumberland Island would have disastrous effects on a global scale.

Born in SouthAmerica, Intiche is currently based in Berlin, Germany. His passion for music began from the early age of four, he began playing acoustic instruments. At age 12, he began to combine these instruments with electronic music. After countless journeys through South America, Africa and Europe, he set up his studio in Berlin to dive into the world of the electronic music scene to develop his own unique style of organic electronic music.
The music of Intiche is a deep fusion of natural organic sounds, traditional instruments and music inspired from various ancient cultures from around the world combined with minimal, trance, tribal and electronic downtempo beats.
His sound transports you into the heart of jungle, over the mountain, across the seas, flying through space and back as we stomp on the grounds of the Pacha mama soil together and shake the spirits to the bones. Our lates release comes from the amazing ARÕMA and is called „Mansārōvar“. We are very happy that he found his way to us <3 This EP is a meditative journey to a beautiful land in the Himalayas. A blend of ambient soundscapes with meditation instruments, religious mantras , ethnic percussions and a soul capturing depth. A compilation of transcendent and healing elements is a prayer for Lord Shiva and Ganesha. According to Hinduism, the lake „Mansārōvar“ was first created in the mind of the Lord Brahma after which it manifested on Earth. It is a personification of purity, and one who drinks water from the lake will go to the abode of Shiva after death. He or she is believed to be cleansed of all their sins committed over even a hundred lifetimes. Like Mount Kailash, Lake Mansārōvar is a place of pilgrimage, attracting religious people from India, Nepal, Tibet and neighboring countries. Bathing in Manasarovar and drinking its water is believed by Hindus to cleanse all sins.

About this song :

La hojarasca (The fallen leaves) is an escape to nature in times of full pandemic and the discovery of the importance of the present from the intense experience of now. Once again, an organic atmosphere envelops everything while the arpeggios of charango and harp create a dialogue with each other while conducting the harmony. An absorbed declamation, an imaginary party and flashes of joy as a conclusion. This is the description of a historical moment, the contrast between the discomfort of uncertainty and the manifest certainty of simplicity ... a photograph of a place that could be that of many other places, in a moment that, equally, could be like many other times.

La hojarasca es un escape a la naturaleza en tiempos de plena pandemia y el descubrimiento de la importancia del presente a partir de la vivencia intensa del ahora.
