Shikawr (শিকড়) is a music project about a journey of homecoming, about all that we can't leave behind but we strangely do, a city lost and found, faces lost and never found, and things in between.....

A journey that has taken over a decade to complete a full circle;
A journey that takes one back to the city, once home, now forgotten;
A journey that brings back long lost names faces and smells, living in the city like a super hero.

Shikawr (শিকড়) is Sahana Bajpaie’s first major contemporary music project as the lead singer beyond her forte, Rabindra Sangeet and folk-soul-sufi songs. Sahana has been soul of this project from the inception, making it about her own journey from staying abroad in London and homecoming.

This music project started from nowhere, after a rush of words came back to the lyricist-composer Saptarshi (Apu) after a hibernation of over a decade. Started off as a blog of lyrics, the first few lyrics turned on to songs which grew into a number of them. He approached long time friend Sahana who emotionally connected with the project and started the journey together soon to be joined by Samantak and Gorki.

Flash forward, after numerous face-to-face sessions, a few hundred emails, skype/ facebook/ whatsapp chats and messages, long distance phone calls and tireless recording sessions, this journey culminated into an album with six months work in between collaborating with some of the most talented musicians in the city. 

The team eagerly awaits feedback and wishes all the best to other hibernating musical travellers waiting to start their own journeys.....
