Some "sludge ambient" from Shea McGilvray. All exclusive, unreleased tracks that hopefully will see the light of the day in the near future. This mix is about aging data, or the character time and duplication inflicts upon sound files. Shea's thinking of how digital music will sound after the internet collapses. He's thinking of digital as rarity. He's thinking of high rises reclaimed by plant life and water. He's thinking of a flickering screen in a flooded atrium with sun shining through the broken skylights……..

A lot of this is loop based, with some longer improvisational pieces included. Shea's made many of the bits in his office at work, looking at the concrete against the sky. Most of it is made simply: low quality recordings or tracker projects or even apps on his phone, exported and cycled many times. There are field recordings incorporated, but not obvious, because he's turned them into instruments. Overall, Shea's going for a dirty minimalism……interesting, food for thought……enjoy!

Shea's getting his MFA in Fiction, a year from finishing. He wrote a short prose that is strongly connected to the music he's making. He has an instagram (instagram.com/frotus) which makes up the visual aspect of his creative narratives. He's also beginning to dabble more in the arts, with a recent video/sound installation in downtown San Antonio, TX, where he lives and work. Basically, he's been working/experimenting in multiple mediums for a long time, and he doesn't see any of it as separate from anything else. He's conceiving new ways to exist online, though he has not made up his mind whether that is necessary.
