I was traveling alone in Japan during the winter.
Heavy snow, heavy wind, slippery road.
No one is going to hike at the time.

I was the only one sitting on a giant tour bus,
heading to Kumano Kodo.
The driver was worried.
At least I could tell from his face
though I didn't understand a single word he said.

I was walking on this muddy path going uphill. 
Surrounded by enormous pine trees,
Big snow droplets,
hitting every part of my body indifferently. 
I was exhausted.

I didn't have water with me.
I started licking snow on fallen leaves,
and it tasted like teeth allergic

I sat down on the mud, feeling hopeless.
I started feeling objects around me.

Sunlight passes through the needle pine leaves, scattered.
Snowflakes pass through the sunlight reflecting and twinkling. 
Colliding with leaves and ground sounding like a sonata.

Solitude is bliss.
I found my own peace.
