“ All songs have a story. 
This release took longer than expected.
Serendipity had it that our dear friend Jean-Henri from the Morta Knives wanted some music in his Atelier.
Covid happened and the Afrobeat Icon Tony Allen passed.
Then my kinsman, friend an Afrobeat Icon Oghene “Mr OK” Kologbo died. 
Here’s my 1st official release ever. 
I had to start with this tune and this video.
I can’t think of a better way to honour Oghene “Mr OK” Kologbo.

The band SIGNS are all from Loire Atlantique, France. 
This is also where I live and where Mister OK played his final tune.

My mum was there… we sat on Goldhawk's roof terrace, his beat was on loop and I wrote “Holding On”. I got my cousin Alero to come in a week after to put a lead vocal on my chorus, to have a additional vibe… I believe it was during this session that she found her voice… she didn’t speak for a week after if I remember it well. 

When I played the 1st rough mix of “Holding On” through my 1000WATT, my neighbour Jason Leach from SUB BASS came in and got really excited by my latest recording! 

He was like: “What effects did they use on your voice!!! 
mOi: “Nothing fancy, I imagine a compressor and some reverb…” 
jAson: “No but the sound! wow! the sound” 
mOi: “Well G did have “logic 4.something” (i think it was at the time) and he had lots of fancy plugins!”
 jAson: “NO!! that doesn’t explain it! The sound…” 
mOi: Well G doesn’t even touch his mouse when he’s manipulating logic, I said… I’ve never seen anything like it! He’s so quick and knows 100s of shortcuts!” 
jAson: “NO! The room you were in, must have had a real unusual shape…”

You know what?! Jason Leach was right! The room did have an unusual feature in its shape. This enabled me, a few years later, to instruct Dan Sayers and Andy Dorman, to their great surprise, as to were in their house to put the mic to have the best vocal sound, when we were working on what later became “UNFINISHED BUSINESS”… but more about favourable room shapes later, as in not today!!!

We had no returns (retour, monitors) on stage so we could all hear ourselves and the drummer really... So considering that, it was a great gig...

Because besides our ARTHOUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET & jOhnhippie the band…

I had a team of medical doctors who were all musicians so I finally learned how to hold a guitar without damaging my body and besides technique mézières kiné (Carole Hostein if you want one of the best, she’s in Bordeaux) I had electro physio/ massage/ remusculing almost every morning in the village at 2 min walking distance. 
Sometimes an evening session too.

Infact I had to learn how to walk… My feet weren’t touching ground. Little did I know then that already 2 of the 3 ligaments that hold an ankle together were gone. I had to rip through the 3rd ligament last year to find that out… though I had my suspicions… but that is a chapter of a different story (I have had new ligaments installed since by the honourable Dr Cherou, I recommend him highly as he is handsome, a genius and a man of God)

the deeper i get into my soundtechnology and production course,
the more i realise how many disrespectful musicians i have let play my songs over the years...
i wondered why i didn't do this type of study before to realise i didn't have any money before...
as soon as i did i started
AND my studies
AND looking after my heavily autistic mum who has been diagnosed with a degenerative muscle disease
(actually we looked after her for 3 years already without any money)
AND getting a bunch of kids out of care
God has a plan! All is well!
being a child of God is not demonstrated by going to church...
what is faith without works!!!
besides it reads in the bible that where 2 or more people are gathered to praise God they are in church
thus i am in church ALL day and EVERY day when i'm at home with my little family
all those people my mum has shown care for... where are you now!!!

2017 
My father told me not to procrastinate like he did, he repeated this on his deathbed. So, this year, I will put all my recordings online... My quest for perfection, my search for a team of like minded people, the yearning to have my off beat guitar riddims well received and bounced back to me, the want to let the songs develop themselves rather than have standard ways and ideas. The pleasure to be not surfing alone on the gorgeous waves of distorted feedback.

Well this and more I think I have finally found... So every month I will put a year of my work online, except for January. To be up to date at the end of the year, I have put my first six self produced albums online in January, the boxed set : " t h e p r o b l e m w i t h b e i n g m e ", which incidentally's also all that I did in England before I came to France.

It is a bit of a mess trying to find quality soundfiles after all these years of moving through Europe. There are wavs, aifs, mp3s, m4as and wmas... anyways a version of each song has been uploaded. I will be making slight changes (uploading superieur qualities where possible) and adding lyrics and background info as to the creation of each song and why it is in the state that it is was left... Voila what more can I say :-)

Everything may be downloaded free of charge and actually we will put all the surviving wavs and aifs on bandcamp where against a small donation ("even just a smile") you may procure yourselves those.
