Sea Turtle Quest was written for the opening of the Fitzroy Island Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Centre in 2013.  

Writing a song to raise awareness about Sea Turtles was a welcome opportunity and a gesture easily made to be able to contribute to a cause that is doing some amazing things to sustain the livelihood of these peaceful marine creatures who face threats every single day of their lives. 
 The rehabilitation of sea turtles in the far north was a project founded in 2000 by Jennie Gilbert and Paul Barnes. With a centre in Cairns and now the opening of the Rehabilitation Centre on Fitzroy Island a notable effort has been achieved made possible by the efforts of Jennie, Paul and the many volunteers who have provided a helping hand with the rehabilitation of the turtles and the management of the centres. A visit to the north could only be enhanced by a visit to Fitzroy Island (an island paradise) to check out the amazing work being done in the rehabilitation centre there. 

Narrative intro.... 
From beneath the sand I hatched, digging all the while, 
Reflected light, the water – the beacon I recognised..
With legs and muscles pumping, I ran the gauntlet fast,
a hungry mob were waiting… tasting… eating…. 
Somehow I managed to outlast!

I made it to the ocean, fought hard to beat the surf
Shadows around me lurking – new predatory turf
Threats from human hazards – risks so manifest 
An epic journey every day – I am a sea turtle. This is my Quest.

This song was written for the Fitzroy Island Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Centre Opening on 13th October, 2013 and performed on the day. Two sea turtles - "Bonnie" and "Clyde" were released into the ocean after having been rehabilitated at the centre.

Mental, emotional and spiritual care are just as important as everyday physical care. In fact, in some circles it is understood that unresolved emotional and mental health can actually manifest into physical symptoms of dis-ease. Self-care begins with self-compassion and self-acceptance. As we better understand ourselves, we can better understand others. Everyone has days when everything is not ok and that's quite normal. 

Bringing acceptance to the present moment is about not being governed by reactivity. Without the habit of reacting, one can become the impartial observer of pleasant and unpleasant without attachment, craving or aversion. From the teachings of the Buddha, dealing with the actual cause of suffering is not something outside of us but rather the sensations that occur within us.

On the basis of the saying what you resist persists... Eckhart Tolle says.
"To be OK with what is, which is the simplicity of this moment is the beginning of true change."
To gain insight into this perspective from Eckhart Tolle view his video online - "Accepting the Present Moment, not the Life Situation".

The song, "It's OK to Not Be OK" presents from the dimension of an inner reality, with the perspective of an Impersonal Self relating to the Personal Self pointing the way for healing within. We do however, not live our lives in a bubble and it is relationships that significantly provide pointers to the way for growth, development and becoming. 

At a greater level, a healing song for a world of change starts with ourselves.

Releases include: “Keep it Real”, “Cry Baby Cry”, “It’s Ok to Not Be Ok”, “My Kind of Paradise” “Sea Turtle Quest”, “Take on Today” with Rebecca Rain, EP "It's About Time” and EP “Liberty” with Silktones. “Life’s About the Little Things”, a co-written song is cut on Carter and Carter Better Day album. Shirley’s songs reflect new age positivity and experimental style exploring concepts, ideas, storytelling prowess, love and life lenses for conscious living. Over the years Shirley has been engaged at festivals, events, gigs and performances at venues in and around Cairns, North Queensland and beyond. Her songs do cross genre boundaries with fused elements from some genres that may include country blues, country rock, country ballad, alt country, contemporary & traditional country, folk and roots influences.
