Today we premiere a track that takes on electro from a new perspective, from the brand new 7 track album 'Life After Roland' from Irish producer, Maurice Anthony Moran.

Berlin based Irish producer Maurice Anthony Moran is someone who is passionate about the super technical side of music production, and how it fits in with modern day technologies. 

Having had a long standing interest in music from a young age, he went on to find solace in producing where it played a huge role in supporting him through a tough period of his life. This inspired him to follow his musical ambition to where we see it shine today. 

Like many electronic artists, his interest began with collecting music and DJing, but he soon gravitated toward the art of production and live performance. He is currently studying a Bachelors degree in Catalyst Berlin, which has opened him up to new concepts and possibilities within the realm of the audio world, with a strong emphasis on technology and how it can be used to further develop electronic music.

For his first major project, Maurice has developed his album entitled ‘Life After Roland’, which boasts 7 tracks that aim to highlight and tackle genre conventions in electro, specifically the use of vintage drum machines such as the Roland TR-808. To highlight the concept, he chose a handful of less traditional ways of making drums and explored a variety of different styles within the composition of the music, while creating overall continuity.

We premiere the last track from the album entitled 'Evolve' which is a fast paced electro track with elements of breaks and a mixture of gritty synths interspersed with atmospheric breakdowns.

Four Four Premiere: Maurice Anthony Moran - Evolve [Life After Roland]

Today we reach #132 of our Local Selection series, which continues to go from strength to strength as we feature a new Local Selector every week. It's fair to say this little island is full of talent and this week is no different. 

Fiveseven is a Dublin-based queer techno goddess who's been making waves as both a contributor and resident DJ at the Grace Club parties. She bases her sound around pulsating, hypnotic melodies and rhythmic sequences, which are relentless yet boucey and ravey. 

Her sound is influenced by being closely involved as a club-goer and collaborator in queer techno and sex-positive club cultures. She has mostly played around Ireland, and Berlin with members of sex-positive and queer collectives such as Herrensauna, Mina and Dump. 

We've come across her mixes over the last few months and knew her take on techno would be something our listeners would really appreciate. If you're in the mood for some fun and wonky techno, then make this your soundtrack for the day.

Tommy Four Seven | RAW Escape From Reality II

Amy aka @ttyfal ist in den letzten Jahren eine wichtige Akteurin innerhalb der Leipziger Clubkultur geworden; die Liste ihrer Projekte und Aktivitäten ist lang. Ihrer Liebe zur Musik geht sie dabei nicht nur als DJ nach. Als Musikjournalistin schreibt sie für @frohfroh u.a. Plattenrezensionen, Künstler*innenportraits und erarbeitete in Kooperation mit Feat. Fem eine Statistik, die strukturelle Diskriminierung gegenüber Frauen* in der Leipziger Clubszene sichtbar machte. Die Schaffung von Sichtbarkeit und das Empowerment weiblicher* DJ’s steht auch im Mittelpunkt ihrer Partyreihe xa’li:t, die sie zusätzlich zur INPUT x sugar (@inputifz) Donnerstagsveranstaltung im IfZ kuratiert. Die erste xa’li:t Party „als beide Floors komplett voll waren, die Gäste super Spaß hatten und nur Girls an den Decks standen“ blieb ihr dabei als empowernder Moment besonders in Erinnerung. Das Aufgreifen von politischen und intersektionalen Themen in der Clubkultur ist ihr entsprechend ihres eigenen Engagements wichtig. Wichtig ist Amy aber auch, dass die Clubkultur an „stetig neuen, innovativen Konzepten" arbeitet und nicht einschläft. Darüber hinaus schätzt sie besonders ein solidarisches Miteinander. Egal ob in der Leipziger Szene allgemein, die sie für ihre Diversität hinsichtlich der Akteur*innen und Genres schätzt, oder auf dem Dancefloor. Hier ist ihr „nicht die Größe der Crowd wichtig - hauptsache der Vibe und die Energie ist geil. Wenn die Crowd sich komplett auf dein Set einlässt, du merkst, dass du mukketechnisch keine Kompromisse machen musst.“
Als jüngstes Mitglied der Ghetto Traxx Gang (@ghettotraxx) ist die family resemblance in puncto Sound nicht zu überhören: eine sehr UK-lastige Mischung aus House, Electro, Breaks und Garage. Der Fokus ihres Feat. Fem Podcasts liegt dabei auf aktuellen Breakbeat Tracks, die sie während des Lockdowns gediggt hat. Das ist für Amy auch das erste Mal, dass sie in einem Set ein paar Platten mixte. Der Podcast folgt dabei dem Prinzip „All Killer, no Filler“ - das können wir so nur doppelt unterstreichen!

Feat.Fem Podcast 18 - ttyfal

The Vortex - Operation 4.0 & Andromeda

November's podcast is mixed by the radical and new-gen French icon: JKS (@jksmusic).

JKS exploded within the French and European techno scene, and it was very early on that the boy co-founded the crucial Molekül label (@molekulpage), which today embodies the revival of a referenced, powerful and solid rave. 

When it comes time to take action, JKS is uncompromising and never stops making take off more and more big and globalized dancefloors. It is not surprising to see him at major European events such as Boiler Room (@platform) or Possession (@possessiontechno), especially through his live project "Jawbreakers" that he shares with his alter ego Mayeul (@mayeul303). In parallel, he released tracks and vinyl EPs affirming a rave and positive vocal music, placed under the sign of a furious and intoxicating modern dance, with a wide variety of inspirations, which allowed him to build a marked style of his own. 

After a first solo EP on his label Molekül in 2019, he was recently highlighted by Regal (@regalmusic) on his label "Involve Records" (@involve-records), thus asserting his place within the international scene. Not expecting to slow down any time soon, he especially just created his own label "Smile Sessions" and you can definitely count on him for the decade 2020.
