Importance Of A Guru

Thus Spake Babaji: Overcoming difficulties in meditation

Shri Shiva Rudra Balayogi is a Self Realized Yogi addressed as Babaji by his devotees. A direct disciple of the renowned Guru Shri Shivabalayogi Maharaj, He selflessly served His Guru for 20 years at Shri Shivabalayogi’s Dehradun ashram in the serene foothills of the Himalayas. After such time, He entered into the “highest pitch of meditation”, called tapas. He performed tapas for 20 hours a day continuously for five years, culminating in Self Realization. Now He resides in His Guru’s Dehradun Ashram and Devarayasamudram Ashram near Bangalore, traveling the world to continue the Mission of teaching meditation to all.

Shri Shiva Rudra Balayogi was born Srinivas Dikshitar in 1954, affectionately known as ‘Seenu’. From a young age he felt keenly aware of life’s transitory nature. He pondered, "Do we come into being with our physical body, and do we die with this body?" "If one is truly the Immortal Soul, the Consciousness beyond birth and death, why is it that we are unaware of it?"

In this detached mood, Seenu dedicated his teenage years to various forms of sadhana (spiritual practice) while searching for his Guru. He was looking for a Guru of the calibre of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Ramana Maharshi; a Guru who had achieved Liberation and who could lead him to Liberation.

He finally met his Guru, the great Shri Shivabalayogi Maharaj, at the age of sixteen. Upon hearing that Seenu wanted to join his Guru's Mission, his mother made him wait three years to make sure his feelings were genuine.

At the age of 19, he entered into Shri Shivabalayogi’s service. Balancing both meditation and karma yoga (path of service), he maintained a gruelling schedule managing the Dehradun ashram. 

Shri Shivabalayogi attained Mahasamadhi (dropped his physical body) in March 1994, after Seenu had completed twenty years of service to His Guru. In November of that year, Seenu entered the highest stage of meditation known as tapas.

He sat meditating in perfect thoughtlessness for an average of 20 hours a day for five years.

On November 23rd, 1999 He emerged Self-Realized as Shiva Rudra Balayogi. Thenceforth His mission has been to teach the Jangama Dhyana meditation technique given to Him by His Guru and which He used to achieve Self Realization. He is the embodiment of the Vedanta and His teachings radiate the simplicity of one who has mastered the Truth:

"Efforts can bring miracles. Achieving Supreme Peace through sadhana is the real miracle. Rings and chains cannot give Peace to this world and are easily available in shops. For a few hundred dollars one can fly in the air. I have always said that if someone can wave the hand and give Peace to the world, that day I will consider it a miracle."

"Permanent peace and happiness only comes when you become the master of your mind."
