Hashem has given us such a powerful yetzer hora because He wants to redeem us specifically when we are at a low level. This way, we will know that His love overpowers his attribute of justice. Therefore, I would like to propose that we calm our fears about this type of Jew or that type of Jew holding back the geula. When you see a Jew making a massive error, take comfort in the fact that he is making the geula more likely. (*Frum Jews included) Rabbi Akiva would agree to this kind of backwards perspective.
