Was discussing The Replacements with a friend and had the urge to write a tune in that vein, and, gosh, there was inspiration right there in the daily news.  This was a quick & dirty one day write &  record, but then quick & dirty seems to be the order of the day.

This is a re-upload of a track that was recorded a few years ago.  It was originally recorded in 2023, and it consists of 3 different segments of sitar and drum jams spliced together with subsequent sitar and bass tracks added after.  Drums were played by Mick Mack, sitar and bass by Gremescer Fuckburger.  I generally like the way it turned out, but I always wished I had tuned the sitar better before recording.  I have edited this track a bit to fix some of the tuning issues, but there is only so much I can do.  Either way, I hope you enjoy.

This is the latest in our series of songs Carl has written about us. Being as both Tez, a lifelong, and to a lesser degree, Carl are Manchester United fans, Carl siezed on the opportunity to celebrate their shared fandom. Although the lyrics are a little inscrutable to us Americans, we love that football (soccer) fans from across the pond will know exactly what he's talking about. 
  Carl wrote this song on his acoustic guitar, and upon sharing it with us, we weren't sure as to the direction we wanted to take it. JJ threw down first, adding his good-time-sounding upright piano and strikingly beautiful organ to the mix first. Enchanted with Carl's composition, Josh next added his bass and mandolin both in the same recording session, without even closing his DAW. Mark was in right after, adding his friendly fiddle solo as well as fiddle fills throughout. Being as the song is about him, Tez came along shortly after and added the tuneful intro and outro on his guitar. Then, as it was just about to sit for a while, Ken added his very tasteful, perfect drums to the mix, thus completing the rhythm section. 
  Before we put a bow on it, though, Stephen made it back from his week in the Colorado wilderness in time to add his magical banjo to the mix. Speaking of mixes, now it was time for one, and we turned it over to him, our in house pro, to do the honors.
  We all really enjoyed working on this one. It is an example of Eclectic Collective taking one of Carls songs and having our way with it. Always a team effort getting it over the line, but we always manage to do it. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Hello. So funny, as years ago I was jamming with a bunch of friends and I asked Allen what he was playing on guitar when we took a break. He said… it’s a simple farming song. I laughed as the melody was great. Maybe most of my songs have been simple farming songs. This one definitely is. It came about after I was exploring some overdriven slide guitar, trying to work up a heavy Blues tune. None of that was panning out, so I just grabbed the Dobro and kept it simple. Everything about the song just fell into place, to include some vocal shenanigans. In other news, I’ve got a long chore list to get after before the snow flies. One quick chore was climbing up on the garage and shoveling Bandit’s droppings off the roof by the apple tree he loves. Bandit is a raccoon. It also gave me a chance to pick some apples on the branches that overhang the roof. I left more apples than I picked… for Bandit and the deer that come in here… Bandit likes apples and unknowingly helps to fertilize the apple tree. Everyone pulls their weight down here on the farm. Hahahaha. Birds are migrating through in waves now. I sit out on the porch in an old chair and watch them. Sometimes I get to see a bird or two I haven’t seen before and look in the field guide to try and ID it. So there’s a bit of ornithology going on ‘round here too. Anyway, I hope you’re doing well wherever you are, with whatever you’re doing these days. Thanks for dropping by for a spell. Mark

autumn leaves

My newest song I wrote Sep 30, in the wee hours of the night, 1-3am... A few lyrics came to me awhile back, I usually always come up with a melody first then the lyrics, but this time happened differently, once I hit the D chord then another, it all just came together very fast, as a songwriter, these unexpected nights always amaze me, I've never been the type to say oh I'm gonna write a song today...they've always just came to me. These were feelings that weighed very  heavily on me almost a year ago now, strange how I wrote this now...guess it's a closure song that I needed deep down. Sometimes things can just surface.  I hope someone out there can relate. Recorded live tonight on my 60's Baldwin, Rode NT1 mic, hooked into a Tascam Portacapture x8. Thanks so much for listening!! The pic is one I shot of the bridge in my hometown after a storm a few months ago. I felt like that bird, arriving safe and sound. More songs will be coming! Take care out there everyone.
