Emily Jane Brontë (30 July 1818 – 19 December 1848) was an English novelist and poet who is best known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights, now considered a classic of English literature. She also published one book of poetry with her sisters Charlotte and Anne titled Poems by Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell with her own poems finding regard as poetic genius.

Roll The Dice

Finally returning to Italy (Sardinia to be precise) post Covid in a couple of months to go on residency. In anticipation of this adventure I will upload a few Italy based works from festivals etc that i have made over the last few years. This work  premiered as part of the 2021 Helicotrema festival. Official arty wanky explanation below:
'Whilst my yearly travel to Italy from my hometown of Hobart in Australia is halted due to the pandemic I have been increasingly aware of other more subtle forms of travel. In particular, how sound itself travels has become an important aspect of my research with more sound files being sent across the globe and conversations with other artists via zoom and mobile phone replacing the face to face communication I have been used to. 

Sound travels at 1225kms an hour but ever since radio broadcasting was developed we can hear things from anywhere in the world instantly. Sound can ,in a way ,also time-travel - I can play recordings from the past and re-live the experience of being there. 

With these ideas in mind I wrote (the work  using a live stream audio stream from Venice that was mixed with a live local recording 13.5 hours (the time the sound would have taken to travel to Hobart) after it was broadcast. This combined audio recording of Venice and Hobart formed the raw material which was manipulated and arranged to evoke some of the many sensations of physical travel - movement, wonder, fear, enchantment, loneliness and adventure. 

Unedited field recordings from my archives are introduced at the 4 minute mark - one of the Grande Canal sent to me in 2019 and one of the main highway in my hometown which I sent to a colleague in Italy in 2020. These recordings capture the main routes of travel in their respective cities and bridge the past with the present creating a sound collage that travels through time.

In keeping with the theme of how sound travels the entire piece was written and mixed in 13.5hours, echoing the time it would take for sound to travel between Hobart and Venice.'

This song was written by Ken and a dearly departed friend and former bandmate named Chris Bennett about the latter's divorce that he was going through at the time when their band was also breaking up. Ken had a good demo of the two of them fleshing it out, which the Eclectic Collective used as a template for the song. Josh was first to add his unique slide bass line to the song. Next up was Tez, who added the fiery solo you hear at the end. Stephen came in not too long after with the rhythm guitar, complete with the intricate fills you hear throughout. Around the same time, Mark added some really innovative, genre-bending horns and shakers to it. Ken then completed the song with his stellar vocals. 

  Of course, every great song needs a great producer, so Ken turned it over to Stephen for an objective mix, although Ken was still heavily involved in the process, too. This is the first time Ken has sung lead for an EC song, and we were all very impressed with his skills on this one. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.

Happy Ever After (Eclectic Collective)

So impressed of the work of Marcus - Cosmic Majo, with our story of the blue men, we engaged for a new collab. The music and production are made by him and i tell the story of the wood spirit...

Behind that story is another story....

The  wood spirit

If you ask yourself why many walking sticks have the letters WS engraved, then listen and learn:
It all goes back to a European legend of The  wood spirit.

For centuries people believed the forests were full of mystical spirits.
Now people calm themeselves by saying “there are no such creatures”

But I know better:

Their’s a sense op tranquility in the forest, when there is no wind.
But on days when the wind is whisteling and blowing,
 the trees of the forest moan and sigh.

The wood bends or breaks, and the voices of woodspirits are heard: crying. 
And although wood spirits mostly are gentle, you don’y want feel the wrath of a wood spirit with a bad temper; 
So be wise, assure your safety by carving wood spirit images on your walking stick or by carving WS meaning  wood spirit.
That will calm the forest spirit.
