Sort of an undemocratic approach to saving democracy, don't you think?

For this one, I rounded up my fantasy band, the Famous Texas Men Of Note, to perform at the imaginary Seven Sisters Dance Hall, some 40 miles west of Austin, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.  The crowd wasn’t huge that night, but it was plenty raucous.  Needless to say, we brought the house down.  We always do.

Event commemorated with a photograph,
A delightful list of crimes,
Got ‘em prancin’ with the lawyers down the primrose path,
The scribes down in the court,
Breathlessly report,
With a glee they can’t contain,

Giddy like the vultures, feasting on the rotted culture,
That has spawned them from its womb,
And they tell us all how grateful we should be,
Cause they’re doing it to save democracy.

Our protectors wouldn’t quit,
On this noble quest,
There would be no rest,
Staged sudden raids, drew dossiers,
Tried Russian links, threw kitchen sinks,
To cage the dreaded pest,
Damn the proper form,
They’ve snared Le Bete Orange,
Slam the gavel, bring the charge,

And now they’re giddy…..

Giddy like the buzzards circling o’er their prey,
Giddy like the varmints, chewing on the hated target,
While the judges hold him still,
Giddy like the frantic hawks, flailing with their shrilly squawks,
The fear they just can’t kill,
Damn the coming storm,
Now they’ve booked Le Bete Orange,
Slam the gavel, bring the charge,
Hey, the law may be applied unequally,
But it’s the only way to save democracy.

I beg you Lovely Lady, turn your head away,
Away from the shame, away from the pain,
America, America, how did we let it get this far?
We are your sons, what have we done?
What have we done……….

Ah but giddy doesn’t last, when the vengeance & the wrath,
Shred the piers that bear the load,
No it won’t be so hysterical, when even Heaven’s miracle,
Can’t keep our father’s code, 

Oh but decision day is nigh, & the beast is still alive,
And far too many still believe…..

So arrest the Monster!...show it on TV,
Silence him & anyone who won’t concede,
There’s no time for constitutionality,
When the mission is to save democracy.

A requiem for my sister Lisa, and 4th movement of a work I have planned to complete as I have time and inspiration for each part of my outline.

The title comes from my daughter, who heard me as I was playing with the initial melodic idea, and said it sounds like a mourning bird.

This piece is best heard through headphones or quality stereo speakers to hear all the details.

"Jamming w/ Jazz Bass" (Edit: Mastered in iZotope Ozone on January 13th, 2025.)

A little excercise that I finished today. I made this track originally some time ago playing a VST bass, but after I finally got a Jazz Bass recently I wanted to try to play and record something with it, and here we go! 

Played by me using sounds from different VST instrument collections (Rhodes V8 Pro electric piano, Native Instruments Komplete Now collection & Abbey Road 1980s Drums, UVI SonicPass collection). The bass was played by me with a Fender American Ultra Jazz Bass (Cobra Blue). 

Sorry about the mistakes with the bass.. But after I sold my beautiful G&L Interceptor bass guitar in the late 1990's it has now been maybe 25 years since I played bass the last time, and I'm practicing:) 

Especially playing with the correct timing and with right & consistent velocities was really challenging. I also actually played the bass line maybe too loud, so had to do some EQ'ing and stuff afterwards.

In our lives, we are granted the opportunity to witness the departure of our loved ones. Some depart through doors, never to return, yet still exist somewhere. Others leave suddenly, unexpectedly. Yet some depart when we are somewhat prepared, for their age predisposes them to it. However, there are also departures more challenging... when we observe the tree of the mind of a beloved, from which memories' leaves fall, and even the freshest, youngest cannot hold on to it. We cannot help, we can only watch how they fall...

Composing this little piece was very personal. It was combined with the realization of a fact from my immediate surroundings. I left all imperfections of my playing because of how I felt at that moment. It wasn't an improvisation, it was an interpretation of a theme that I've developed few minutes earlier. Hey…. Snowing now, I went out to do a little snow shoveling and to check on an injured whitetail deer that was hiding along the fence line of my neighbor’s property yesterday. Looks like the deer waited until the cover of night to leave, and probably headed into the riparian brush along the creek down the road. I saw the deer yesterday, as I was outside. It had an injured front hoof, and was definitely limping. The deer was well camouflaged along the wooden fence and bedded down under some bushes. I laughed because the neighbor’s dog was none the wiser, as to the presence of the deer. I was hoping that deer would make it, and survive, as hiking in the spring, I have often found deer carcasses, picked clean by eagles, coyotes, magpies and others, as the winter took its toll on them. There have been plenty deer in the yard here all winter long. I usually shake the dried apples off the trees once a week, and they fall into the snow. Then it looks like an army came through, hoof prints everywhere and nary an apple to be found. Anyway, this song is about my childhood. A dark and cathartic song. A little rough around the edges too.
