This song started as a full composition on all instruments by Rich. He asked me if I'd be interested in a collaboration with it. I jumped at the chance to share it with the Eclectic Collective. So, I invited the gang to join in, replacing most of the original instrumentation, and adding some new. After Ken had added his driving, foundational drums, I added my bass to match. JJ soon after cranked up the funk-o-meter by adding his clave and screaming organ. Then, I added a guitar solo, which comes in right after Rich's intro. Stephen was up next with his badass licks in the third solo. Then Tez got a hold of it, and ripped a hole in the ether with his guitar in the last solo.
  Ken was generous enough to produce and mix this for us. And what an outstanding job he did, too. We hope you enjoy listening to this song as much as we enjoyed making it.

A little excercise that I finished today. I made this track originally some time ago playing a VST bass, but after I finally got a Jazz Bass recently I wanted to try to play and record something with it, and here we go! 

Played by me using sounds from different VST instrument collections (Rhodes V8 Pro electric piano, Native Instruments Komplete Now collection & Abbey Road 1980s Drums, UVI SonicPass collection). The bass was played by me with a Fender American Ultra Jazz Bass (Cobra Blue). 

Sorry about the mistakes with the bass.. But after I sold my beautiful G&L Interceptor bass guitar in the late 1990's it has now been maybe 25 years since I played bass the last time, and I'm practicing:) 

Especially playing with the correct timing and with right & consistent velocities was really challenging. I also actually played the bass line maybe too loud, so had to do some EQ'ing and stuff afterwards.

Happy Friday everyone. :)

Silly story behind this song name. My family can get a little snarky at times (surprise, surprise); and the title is definitely a running joke around the household... following the adoption of our first dog ever. 

Needless to say, we've determined these frightening, bite-sized culinary experiments gone wrong are your furry little friend's worst nightmare. So if you spot one wandering your neighborhood while out on walkies... do not engage. o.o

One Sweet Day

One of the first people I met on this platform was the wonderful Societe Cantine. He listened with open ears and offered indepth thoughts on my music and sparked conversation and experimentation. He, himself a mind-blowing sound artist, has released a  string of albums over the last decade that still sing with originality and genre breaking optimism. We danced round the edges of collaboration for a longtime, adding little bits of sound to bigger projects or producing video. Just before COVID hit the world we finally met in Paris - I had so much talk about, as did he.. like children we struggled with face to face language; his english is good, my french is terrible : ) We decided that we should finally start collaborating in depth and this is the first piece - conceived and played with, back and forth during lockdown COVID times. Naturally enough we titled it Language Gap after our initial stumbling meeting. It got an honourary mention in the 2023 One Minute Radio Festival and through that has been played all over the world . Fardeau Losange (as he now known) and I are working now, very slowly on some sort of album - it will take forever, but its almost secondary to the friendship that has grown around the music we have listened to, written and shared on this platform.   https://societecantine.bandcamp.com/album/lopacit-des-interlignes

Language Gap (Fardeau Losange/Mat Ward)

I went on a ``fishing'' trip to make music, and I targeted the wrong catch. I intended to create a song that included rich percussion in addition to hi-hats and toms. I liked the sound of the tom with the delay applied, so I finished it as is. My skill level is that I don't have the talent to remake or expand my image, and once it's completed, it stops there. Maybe even bigger music was waiting for me.

This is a song that originated with Ken several months ago. He wrote the whole thing on piano, guitar, and drums and presented it to the rest of the band. Of course, everyone was very excited to add their spin to it. 

Josh added his bass part first, as the foundation. Ken also left his catchy original guitar intro as it was. Then JJ added his dynamic piano part, which ended up being both foundational and stylistic, along with the sax that you hear in there, too. Stephen added his solid foundational guitar to it, too, soon after. Then it sat, stalled out for need of some vocals. Of course, we asked TMD to add some, which he did in grand fashion for the choruses. All that was left were the verses. Ken wrote lyrics, and gave Josh an idea for the melody, so he sang the verses to wrap it up. Of course, we asked Stephen to produce and mix it for us, which he did so well, as always.
