I wrote and recorded this at the end of 2020 (hence no mention of the events of Jan 6th 2021) but never released it at the time for various reasons. 

Given recent events I thought why not clean it up and put it out. 

Just a bit of haaahmless fun as Arnie might say :)

This track is a little nuts.....

If you've ever battled a raccoon, this is the song for you, sung from the perspective of the perpetrator. Raccoons are wily little buggers and more than a little guile is needed to control the movements of an animal that has been trapped in a cage before.

Debated with myself a bit on adding more instruments and sounds but in the end decided that less was more. The "rhythm guitar" is a distorted saturated synth and the "lead" is a Logic Pro Heavy Metal guitar manipulated with the pitch stick on my synth. The difficult part was getting the swing on the drums right and the ADSR right on the main synth, modulation and LFO. Also played a bit with the compression to get a breathing sound.

About the raccoon - that battle is ongoing - physical deterrence is now in place.

The raccoon, also spelled racoon and sometimes called the common raccoon or northern raccoon to distinguish it from the other species, is a mammal native to North America. It is the largest of the procyonid family, having a body length of 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 in), and a body weight of 5 to 26 kg (11 to 57 lb). Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur, which insulates it against cold weather. The animal's most distinctive features include its extremely dexterous front paws, its facial mask, and its ringed tail, which are common themes in the mythologies of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas surrounding the species. The raccoon is noted for its intelligence, and studies show that it is able to remember the solution to tasks for at least three years. Neno, became a close soundcloud friend, no mater the distance... 

i wrote the lyrics and melody in Malta (my so called silence retraite), as some sort of message that little gestures can cause a big change. And that is close to the original meaning of the instrumental.

The Pièces froides are two sets of piano pieces composed in March 1897 by Erik Satie. Unpublished until 1912 when Ravel played them publicly, they marked Satie's break from the mystical-religious music of his Rosicrucian and Gymnopodies period (1891–95), and were a harbinger of his humoristic piano suites of the 1910s. 

The title Pièces froides, translated as Cold Rooms or Cold Cuts, is a punning allusion to the dire poverty Satie experienced during his last years living in Montmartre. In July 1896, he had been forced to move into an unheated ground floor closet (he called it a "cupboard”. The space was so small that Satie's camp bed all but blocked the door shut, and on frigid nights he kept warm by sleeping fully dressed with the rest of his clothing piled on top of him.

The dazzling light of the first days of June. On my side of the world, in the Northern Hemisphere, June is a happy month, when nature is at its maximum splendor, with its flowers and colors, its lush life, its light. The days are longer, the climate is mild and people are happier, with more desire to go out, inebriated with so much wonder, for the beginning of summer.
Thanks to my dear inestimable friend @Rosindust for her performance at violin. The counterpoints are from my new cello! Some parts were too low for the violin so I took the plunge and used the cello I bought a few months ago when, in a moment of extreme optimism, I thought it would be easier to play it.. :)

I listen and I see a horse-dragon swim up out of the Black Sea. It climbs into the air. Play on, play on - what can we do but long for this dragon-water from the Black Sea to fall on us?”

While making this, the medieval text 'Omnia sol temperat' dumped into my head. As it have the rebirth theme as well, the synchronicity of it all seemed unmistakeable :-)
