This song began with Christian's friend Holger Engel coming up with a melodic bass line and sharing it with him to use as a seed stem for a project. Having collaborated successfully with him before, Christian thought of Josh and decided to pass it along to him to see what he could build with it. Josh was excited to work on another of Holger's creations. His bass line was in a high octave on the instrument, so Josh added a similar, complimentary bass line on the low octave to give it some heft. He invited Ken onto the project, and after doing their little rhythm section give and take, Ken laid down some powerful, yet tasteful drums. Mark was brought in next, and added some very fitting, wonderfully melodic electric piano, which he added in the choruses. Josh also asked JJ to add some electric piano to the verses and synth to the whole thing, which he did in a very mind-bending syncopated way. Josh then added some guitar to the high end to thicken things up a bit.
  We then sent the finished product back to Christian to add his thoughtful, inspired lyrics and signature vocals to his song. This is what Christian had to say about how the lyrics came about. 
  "[Being an avid reader], I came along the sentence, 'We write and make art to show our wounds to the world,' reading an interview with Paul Auster (1947-2024). He died earlier this year, yet his novels are legendary. There was talk about creativity, manifoldness and what the personality consists of. 
  "I can’t remember where that interview was and basically I wrote the lyrics around this sentence attributed to him. 
  "I quote another writer, Goethe (1749-1832), with a famous quotation from "Faust,“ 'Two souls, Alas, housed in my breast...' That points in the right thematic direction in my opinion.
For sure the lyrics also contain other layers of meanings, much more personal…
I am also happy about the title of the song 'We Are Many'. I think Tez came up with it. I was unsure for very long, what’s the name of that song… :)"
  After we had it in the bag, we asked mix-master Tez to produce and mix it, so what you hear is also his creative vision for the project. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

This track is a little nuts.....

If you've ever battled a raccoon, this is the song for you, sung from the perspective of the perpetrator. Raccoons are wily little buggers and more than a little guile is needed to control the movements of an animal that has been trapped in a cage before.

Debated with myself a bit on adding more instruments and sounds but in the end decided that less was more. The "rhythm guitar" is a distorted saturated synth and the "lead" is a Logic Pro Heavy Metal guitar manipulated with the pitch stick on my synth. The difficult part was getting the swing on the drums right and the ADSR right on the main synth, modulation and LFO. Also played a bit with the compression to get a breathing sound.

About the raccoon - that battle is ongoing - physical deterrence is now in place.

The raccoon, also spelled racoon and sometimes called the common raccoon or northern raccoon to distinguish it from the other species, is a mammal native to North America. It is the largest of the procyonid family, having a body length of 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 in), and a body weight of 5 to 26 kg (11 to 57 lb). Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur, which insulates it against cold weather. The animal's most distinctive features include its extremely dexterous front paws, its facial mask, and its ringed tail, which are common themes in the mythologies of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas surrounding the species. The raccoon is noted for its intelligence, and studies show that it is able to remember the solution to tasks for at least three years. This classic Grateful Dead song has been a favorite of JJ's since his playing in a bar band days, decades ago. Therefore, he decided to come up with a perfect, lively skeleton on his piano for us to use for it, and shared it with us. Josh, being a Deadhead as well, jumped on the chance to play Phil's part on his four string fretless bass. Ken, who isn't necessarily a Deadhead, but can play most anything, jumped on with his driving drums around the same time as Josh added his bass line, as they went back and forth a few times before getting the rhythm section settled. 
  Stephen came along next with his cunning rhythm guitar, follow closely by his solo for the solo section. JJ added his solo for that section right after Stephen had laid his part down. Then we turned it over to James to add his rich, accent-drenched vocals. 
  When we had all the parts down, we turned it over to James (or Stephen) to produce and mix for us, which he did in expert fashion.
  This song was a lot of fun for the Deadheads in the band and non-Deadheads alike to record. This is also the second collaboration done by James and the Eclectic Collective, and we all enjoyed having him on this project.
  We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

I'm not doing any music these days,so I thought I'd post one I did years ago. It's a cover of a Paul Ads song I've always loved.

Paul Adamson is a damn fine songwriter and I hardly ever record covers of other folk's work,but this one resonated deeply with me and still does after repeated listens.
I didn't lean too heavy on the production on this,because I wanted to allow the song to shine. I hope you enjoy and bring a few listens to Paul's cloud.
