Some time ago, I needed to do some thinking about my DTM system and was reviewing my music data.  At that time, I suddenly noticed this song by Mrs Rhymes.  About a year ago, I think.  I had a preliminary recording of my guitar to go along with this wonderful piece.  Remembering that, I played it back and listened.  I didn't like my guitar playing, even though it was just a temporary recording for notes.  I don't think the sounds and phrases I used at that time match the original song.  Compared to that, the original song is still great.  So I grabbed my guitar and started recording.  A few hours later, I was in the process of uploading my freshly finished work here.

The key of this song is C#, and I think that what we should be aware of as a performance style is "B♭m/C# pentatonic".
I do not mix tapping, sweeping, or other fancy playing techniques in my guitar playing with this outstanding piece. I tried to keep the accompaniment very simple. This excellent piece, which I picked up as an example this time, will be finished with two things in mind: "B♭m/C# pentatonic". However, in a blues scale song, one song uses four pentatonic forms. Therefore, first of all, I believe that it is very important to be aware of "two things" on a daily basis and to practice guitar playing repeatedly.

And before we understand it in words, what we value most is the encounter with works and artists that we can continue to enjoy playing along with our favorite music as many times as we want, even ten times if necessary. Right?

I recommend that anyone learning to play the guitar listen to this piece over and over again, playing the Gm/B♭pentatonic scale in various ways, and trying to find a phrase that you like.

The volume adjustment during mixdown is optimized for the environment when using the earphones that come with the iPhone. If you feel that the volume of the guitar playing in this work is low, please use earphones and check the volume balance of this recording. It seems that earphones other than those that came with the iPhone do not have any problems. When using an Android device and when connecting an audio interface to a PC, I connected inexpensive earphones and confirmed that the guitar volume can be heard at a roughly appropriate balance.

There is another way. I have embedded a SoundCloud player on my blog to introduce my works, but I noticed that this work sounds harder (mid-high tones are clearer) than when played directly in the browser. If the guitar volume seems low or the sound quality sounds cloudy, please open the following and play this recording with the SoundCloud player embedded there.

When Richard first sent me Know Me Better, I could immediately tell this song had something special. The melody was catchy yet emotional, and the lyrics carried a message that resonated deeply. It was clear that a lot of thought and heart had gone into crafting it.

By the time I got involved, the track was already beautifully written and produced, with Jaime Deraz’s incredible vocals bringing it to life. My role was to refine and elevate it through mixing and mastering, making sure every element found its perfect place. The goal was to preserve the song’s emotional core while giving it the polished, professional sound it deserved.

It’s always an honor to work on music that feels authentic, and this project was no exception. Huge shoutout to Richard for creating such a meaningful song and to Jaime for delivering such a stunning vocal performance. Know Me Better is a song that truly speaks, and I’m grateful to have played a part in its journey.
