The Chicago Lullaby

The bass and drums are based on a paradiddle (RLRR LRLL drum rudiment). I played the figure on pads, then moved the notes around various percussion instruments. The drums are mostly "linear", meaning no two notes hit at the same time. It kinda gives it a "Flim" feel. (although it sounds nothing like "Flim")

Dreamline had its foundation laid before disaster struck. I had already shaped the core of the track when my computer crashed, forcing me to do a full system reinstall. With everything still in disarray and not yet fully restored, I had to keep working with it this morning without my usual setup—but I couldn’t let this track and idea slip away.

My sound was shaped the moment I first heard Tangerine Dream. Love on a Real Train remains still one of my all-time favorite tracks, not just for its hypnotic atmosphere but also for its iconic place in film history. Featured in the unforgettable scene from Risky Business, where Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay share an intimate moment on a train, the music elevates the scene into something dreamlike and timeless. Everything in that track is built on what I call random plonk, what you call arpeggios—and that very essence was what I wanted to capture.

Dreamline is a journey through light and shadow, a tribute to the past, and a reminder of why I create music.

I was sitting at the gate, waiting for the last flight home, when Ensonic dropped a question in our private Discord – the cozy little creative hub where he, Pax, myself, and a few others hang out, share ideas, give feedback, and talk about life.

He asked if we wanted to rework his track Avenging Angel.
A creative challenge – to see how each of us would approach the same core idea differently.

The plan was to gather a few remixes from people he trusts creatively and release them together as a kind of mini-LP, where each version reflects the artist behind it.

Originally, the idea was to work from stems, but I knew that wouldn’t work for me.
If I’m going to do something, I need to feel it – connect with the sounds and the emotion in every keystroke and note. It has to carry a piece of where I’m at, mentally and emotionally.

So I asked for just a simple screenshot – the bassline and melody.

From there, I shaped the track as if it had been mine from the beginning.
Tweaked a few things, added more melody, and of course... some arpeggios. 😉

But something was still missing.
It needed a voice. A monologue.
Something personal that mirrored the phase I was going through at the time.

The words came at the perfect moment, quietly anchoring the emotional core of Avenging Angel:

Some angels don’t fall.
They rise quietly,
when no one’s watching.
