An artist who broke through last year after entering into EQ50’s female mentorship program, and one that has been working with Shogun Audio as a mentee, Athena continues to impress with her soulful sound. You only have to check out her “Miss You” single on our Point of Origin Vol. 4 to hear this on show - a track heavily supported by the likes of Shy FX, LTJ Bukem, and tastemakers Drum&Bass Arena.

We’re very pleased to announce she is returning to Shogun for her second release with single “Don’t Let”, which has found a home on our Shogun Origins series. Packing the dreamy melodies and crisp drum breaks more people are coming to know her for each day, “Don’t Let” is a testament to the rising talent who is destined for big things in the scene. Don’t just take our word for it though… If you’re familiar with Goldfat Records (and especially Athena’s track “Take Flight”), then you’ll know all too well of the serene creations this artist has been cooking up over her first year in D&B.

Lifestyle is very pleased to welcome back to the label bass-mangler extraordinaire Nami! This time joining forces with a fellow Russian; Kapha, an elusive producer from the underground making his first marks on the scene, and sizable marks at that! The two tunes smack of Nami's dark and experimental style, each having a distinctive sound that's certain to get the gun fingers & grimaces out! 

A-side Praxis is a cold slice of experimental tech; a minimal introduction drops into an ultra-dark, driving bass & break, that doesn't relent. The track channels the vibe of heavy industrial techno, while retaining an irresistible neuro groove through some clever bass & drum programming. Another really unique sounding tune from Nami that will stick out a set, in the best way, and have people fumbling online for an ID the day after. 

The flip, Transmitter, is another high-energy, reese-heavy banger. The core of the track is a repeating mid-bass reese riff, laid on top of huge sub stabs and swells. As the tune progresses the spectrum thickens out even further, with even more interesting bass movement, weird atmospheric objects and textures. The track is basically a masterclass in otherworldly audio & modern bass design, which is nothing less than expected from Nami, who is cementing himself as one of the main players pushing the envelope in underground drum & bass. The inclusion of Kapha on this release is super promising too, and as a new artist has really made an impression on us with these tracks, one to keep an eye on for sure!
