Two artists that have found a home for their exquisite sonic palettes on Shogun Audio, Pola & Bryson and Emily Makis now serve up some of their most captivating work to date. Titled 'Phoneline', this latest offering collates Emily's mesmerising vocal capabilities and songwriting with the masterful production of one of drum and bass' most talented production duos.

Following on from a monstrous 2022's in which Pola & Bryson released 'Tell You What I Did', which went into rotation on Radio 1's playlist, and remixed the likes of David Guetta, VenBee, and High Contrast, 'Phoneline' sees them link up with a future superstar and the most exciting and compelling vocalist in drum and bass music in Emily Makis.
A frenzy of drums, plucks, synth work, and vocals that all co-exist in a sphere that's equal in its vast quantities of tension, power, and beauty, 'Phoneline' is a serious statement from both artists that'll resonate with listeners in the dance just as much as it will with those hearing it at home.

It's not often that songs like this come around - we can't wait to share this one with the world.

The biggest moment yet for the voice synonymous with so many modern-day drum and bass anthems, the ever-enthralling Emily Makis teams up with Dux N Bass, T-Man, and Dread MC on Shogun Audio this March on the infectious sounds of 'My Type'. 

Hot off the back of winning the 'Best Vocalist' award at the Drum & Bass Awards and 'Best Track' at the Youth Music Awards, 2023 also saw Emily Makis rack up over 25 million streams on her anthem 'Phoneline' with Pola & Bryson and co-write Becky Hill and Chase & Status' massive hit 'Disconnect', which rose to #6 in the UK Charts. 

Having now cemented herself of the most recognisable voices in the UK underground scene, 'My Type' sees Emily up the levels once again, with this latest release intertwining elements of D&B and jungle with that iconic 00's R&B sound. The signature attitude and vigour in Makis' vocal palette are as evident as ever here, delivering jaw-dropping melodies, harmonies, and lyrics that perfectly accompany Dux N Bass' killer production.

Friction returns to Shogun Audio, the iconic drum & bass label he started 20 years ago, with a stunning reworking of Monrroe & Emily Makis’ classic ‘Never Too Old’.  

Since launching Shogun Audio in 2004 with a remix of jungle anthem ‘R Type’, Friction has welcomed some of D&B’s finest to the label over the past two decades, including the likes of Alix Perez, DJ Marky, Pola & Bryson, Icicle, Technimatic and DRS among many others.  

 The imprint has also acted as proving ground for some of the scene’s best up-and-coming talent, and no two have stood out like Monrroe & Emily Makis.  After both debuting on Shogun in 2019, they have established themselves as rising stars within UK dance music in the years that followed.   Their track ‘Never Too Old’ from the ’15 Years of Shogun Audio LP’ has cemented itself as a fan favourite across the globe, and it’s now fitting that Friction delivers a new anthemic version to commemorate the label’s 20th year.

The celebrations continue for the rest of 2024, with ’20 Years of Shogun’ club nights, festival takeovers and a lot more exciting records celebrating the past & future of one of D&B’s most beloved institutions.

Having been heavily supported by the likes of Friction, K Motionz, Kanine, Charlie Tee, Harriet Jaxxon, DJ Marky, goddard, and so many more, 'Freak Like Me' has been blowing the roof off some of the biggest raves and festivals over the past twelve months, becoming one of the D&B scenes most highly-requested dancefloor smashers in the process. This track has also been building massive hype online and was named BBC Radio 1's 'Drop Of The Week' earlier this summer.
