Having been on the scene running underground parties celebrating the left-field around London for the last three years, the off-kilter rave collective fragment on machines have curated a selection of genre-defying talent from the UK and abroad for their debut compilation release.

FOM001 was created with the intent of raising money for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Medical Aid Palestine and features 12 unique club-adjacent tracks ranging from cinematic Bladerunner breaks to gritty, unstable hyperpop, from artists united by their support of the Palestinian people.

Track 10 is a hypnotic, 808-driven thinkpiece by South London DJ and producer Shokunin. ‘Pantone 355 C’, the colour code for the green of the Palestinian flag, is a track driven by its spatiality. Shokunin’s skin-tight percussive textures and pensive ambience that define his production style are present here, and are pushed into psychedelic territory by the kinetic 3D soundscape their interactions form. Shokunin is a co-founder of the experimental label and arts collective BONSE1 and has proven himself as one to watch for 2024.

In May, longtime Vief collaborator halle o’malley got in touch with an idea. She’d come across the Instagram of a 17-year old Palestinian musician called Samih, who’s life has been torn apart as a result of Israel's recent onslaught on the Gaza strip. Their home destroyed, Samih and his family were forced to flee to a refugee camp in Rafah. During their displacement, Samih has gone viral posting videos of himself singing and playing a borrowed oud.
 
Having spoken to Samih and received his blessing, Halle planned to sample a video of his and donate the proceeds from the sales of that track to a GoFundMe set up for him and his family. Halle approached the label with the idea of scaling this project up by inviting other producers to sample Samih themselves or provide original tracks of their own.
 
Madhoun now stands as a compilation containing four productions sampling Samih, an interlude, and nine other dance tracks generously donated by producers from across the world.

Artist: 
Shokunin is a DJ and producer based in London, and co-founder of the ambient label and arts collective BONSE1. His production draws on his textured, ambient influences  -  dipping into deep, meditative states whilst simultaneously stepping in and out of hypnotic, percussive grooves.
