To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Marmion’s seminal classic Schöneberg, Superstition are releasing a new 21-track collection of the best remixes over the last three decades, including two brand new versions from Chris Zippel and DJ T., the remix we have on offer here upfront.

If there were to be a compilation celebrating the golden era of European techno, Schöneberg would arguably be the opening track. The most famous cut that came out of Mijk van Dijk and Marcos López’s project Marmion, Schöneberg is perhaps the purest form of what the clubs and raves of Berlin sounded like in the early 90s, and stands as one of the most revered and fondly remembered tracks of all time.

Mijk van Djik and Marcos Lopez formed Marmion after meeting while studying at the FU Berlin, and began Djing together at clubs across the city. It was from their sets that the seed for  Schöneberg was sown, as they tried to find a balance between the techno and trance sounds that dominated the clubs. It was an era ripe for experimentation, and for cross-pollination between genres, as van Djik recalls: "Coldcut was doing pop, Kevin Saunderson was playing up and down all the floors, everything fit. I didn't feel like I had to limit myself or focus on one style”.

Schöneberg was recorded in a single session, and though they returned to it several times afterwards, they never felt they improved on that first creative burst. Released as part of the Berlin E.P. back in 1993, it was heavily championed by influential figures like Tony De Vit and became of the defining anthems of the 90s.

Over the years it has been remixed a huge number of times, by a wide range of artists. Now, to celebrate 30 years since its original release, Superstition have collected the best of the remixes – from artists like DJ Hell, John Acquaviva Remix, Der Dritte Raum, Tim Engelhardt and Donnacha Costello – presented here with two brand new remixes from DJ. T and Chris Zippel, both of whom do a sterling job of putting their own unique spin one this stone-cold classic.

Originally appearing on Rekids subsidiary REK’D as a limited release a decade ago, Rekids rereleases Dustin Zahn ‘Stranger (To Stability)’ on Special Projects with two outstanding mixes by Len Faki.

A massive techno record, ‘Stranger (To Stability)’ has stood the test of time since its release in 2009. Featuring two remixes by Len Faki, the record was a limited release on wax and has since become sought after by vinyl buyers. With its saw-like synths and ominous atmospherics, the original by Enemy Records boss Dustin Zahn is menacing and comes complete with a compelling groove and dubby stabs - the result is mesmerizing.

Len Faki’s Podium Mix follows a similar aesthetic with its reverbed kicks and metallic effects whilst distorted vocal samples and twisted melodies up the energy forming a colossal anthem. Built on syncopated percussion, the Figure founder’s X-Break Mix meanders forward with an infectious rhythm before a tremendous build up rises and rises, only to diminish to embers before doing it all again.

Dustin Zahn - Stranger (To Stability) (Len Faki Podium Mix)

Liudas Lazauskas (aka Roe Deers) and Titas Motuzas are two friends and musicians from Vilnius, Lithuania. After releasing a cover at Mange Moi, and also introducing their first original release Losses (which also came in music video form), these guys are finally doing what was their initial plan - launching their own independent, Vilnius based label called “Good Skills”. For the first release, Good Skills is presenting two different originals from BDHBTS and eight great remixes created by dear friends from all over the world - two American Berliners, two Belgian acts, a band from Russia, and brothers from Cologne, Tauragė and Tel Aviv.
“Uždaras vakaras" - shows the way BDHBTS likes to dance. Meeting under influence in the studio turned out to be a night, when the anthem for Vilnius bouncers was born. Literal meaning of “Uždaras vakaras” is “Private evening”, which is a phrase very often used by local bouncers when not allowing somebody to enter the club. Little meaning lyrically, simple melodies, lots of drama andsome electronic accordion - this track is just like your night out.
