Funk Themes

Die Dramatic Funk Grooves gehen in die dritte Runde! Dieses Mal wurde noch tiefer gegraben, um noch mehr ungeahnte Schätze in Form von unveröffentlichten Rare Groove Diamanten ans Tageslicht zu befördern!
Beschränkten sich Volume 1 ausschließlich auf das britische Archiv der Themes International Music Library, Vol. 2 auf diverse britische Library Labels, so wurde nun der Radius auf Archive aus Deutschland, Frankreich, England und den USA ausgedehnt.

Die Blaxploitation ähnliche Sound-Ästhetik der 70er Jahre steht wieder im Fokus. Zwangsläufig wird das eigene Kopfkino angeregt, sich den Blockbuster selber zu kreieren: Treibende Verfolgungsjagd-Szenen, spannungsgeladene Detektiv Themen, coole Gangster in Cadillacs, etc… All das vermitteln die 20 bisher unveröffentlichten Perlen, die u. a. aus den Federn deutscher Jazzlegenden wie Dieter Reith, Manfred Schoof oder den britischen Elite Studiomusikern Keith Mansfield oder Simon Haseley (aka Simon Park) stammen.

Zahlreiche Club-Sureshots, die fetten Drum-Breaks und der schier unerschöpfliche Fundus an Sample Material lassen die Herzen von DJs und (Beat-)Produzenten schneller schlagen. Das die originalen Library Alben, von denen die Stücke entnommen wurden, zu Horrorsummen auf eBay gehandelt werden, versteht sich aufgrund der nie im Handel erhältlich gewesenen Muster-LPs von selbst…
Mögen die meisten Stücke dieses Albums weit über 30 Jahre auf ihrem Buckel haben, so klingen sie auch heute noch zeitgemäß. Angesichts der druckvollen Sounds und der reduzierten Arrangements könnte man so manche Songs als HipHop Instrumental Prototypen bezeichnen…

Dramatik und Nervenkitzel hin oder her, eines ist sicher: Die 20 Songs des Albums zerlaufen in einem Guss und machen verdammt viel Spaß!

From start to finish this album features the most insane Jazz-Funk tunes ever released on a Library LP from Italy. Amleto Armando aka 'Puccio' Roelens was a great and requested composer and arranger of the time, been working for Rai and Vedette Records and being also and orchestra leader and pianist. Along with "ROCK SATELLITE" this a KILLER Funk record all the way through, and the most similar record to mythical Torossi's FEELINGS. Incredible B-boy drum breaks in this session with spacey Fender Rhodes, cosmic Synth, mad Fuzz and treated Wha-Wha, heavy basslines, and huge horns section where Dino Piana Jazz trombone seems to play and so on..

First Word Records is proud to present a new full-length project from Souleance ! Following on from 2013’s acclaimed "La Beat Tape", the Parisian duo return for 2019 with "French Cassette".
As well as the recent single "François / Sète" (both included), we have 25 new tracks dedicated to all things Français. This mixtape opus is a true labour of love; A French voyage through time and genres, as Soulist and FULGEANCE like to do. Each track is purposefully named after various French clichés; characteristics, phrases and places. You’ll excuse our French, and check those out for yourselves..
"French Cassette" is comprised of an array of noises from various French composers; from boogie, to jazz, to sound libraries, to chansons. Cinematically sultry sounds, with a lot of funk; where Brigitte Fontaine meets François de Roubaix in a back alley somewhere near the film set of "Calmos", whilst pumping out the soundtrack to La Haine. 
A little moody, a little sexy, a little rough around the edges.
Whilst the film noir-esque interludes accentuate the theme, Souleance’s unmistakable grooves ride throughout, with a symphony of synths and scratches, beats and basslines. This is undeniably, unashamedly a celebration. Boom bap and breaks, all flavoured with a healthy layer of “je ne sais quoi”.
The first single received love from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Tom Ravenscroft, Jazzanova, Huey Morgan, Bill Brewster, Kev Beadle, Hector Plimmer, Red Rack'em (Rinse FM), Thristian (Worldwide FM) and Chris P Cuts (NTS). Meanwhile, the duo recently spun special sessions for Laid Back and Le Mellotron, as well as their numerous DJ sets and live shows across Europe, and recently self-releasing another mixtape tribute, dedicated to the late great Galt McDermot, and featured on Okayplayer & Radio Nova. The Souleance saga continues. Vive la France!!
