Rooted in his Bristol upbringing and no doubt charged by the
city's ‘something in the water’ effect, Berlin-based Insomniast
distills the raw energy of the low-end underground into a hazy,
euphoric morning after on First Light EP—the fifth vision from
Delphic Iris Records.

Extending genre-twisting bass music motifs, he weaves lively
distinct 808 rhythms, rave-tinged vocal chops and stabs, and
bass grooves into a journey through night’s intensity and
daybreak’s hazy reflections.

At its peak, Chasing Streams and 1024 bang hard with a skewed
fusion of UK bass and playful ghetto tech rawness, both
punching through with chest-rattling energy.

As the night fades, First Light, Higher, and Live in Love summon
a more expressive, hazed-out euphoria, blending broken
hypnotic rhythms with warm house music sensibility—the sound
of a morning spent in the park, bluetooth speaker humming,
Lambrini flowing, mates chatting shit, and the echoes of the night
before still drifting in the background.

Two versions of Mortimer's 'Where Would I Be' have been sat on my hard drive for the last few months. This one -- the more recent, composed in the days after my grandmother's death -- wasn't really intended to see the light of day (publicly), but it feels fitting to share it now. Love and music are as close to spiritual feeling as I get; people all over the Greater Antilles will need every ounce of wherever they draw their spirit from over the coming weeks.
