It's time to get Brazilian with this month's special mix by BRINKIE. With this musical homage to the 'Land of the Holy Cross', he brings light to the country's huge influence in music in the past and at present. With styles as Samba, Bossa Nova, Funk and Gospel amongst others, Brazilian music culture is one of the richest in the world. My Current Voyage: Finding My Voice  

The DJs I admire most have something to say, they tell stories with their time on the tables, and take their audience on a journey. There are so many DJs in the world and a lot of range in that title today. I have to admit that I had some hesitation before embarking on this adventure because of just that. “Oh, another DJ”. This thought comes in and out as the feeling of defeat ebbs and flows through my education path. However, that feeling never sticks around long enough because I’ve never felt so connected to something. I can feel it in my body when I play. This is something I am meant to learn. 

Now that I understand the 101, my journey the last few months has been centered around finding my voice. What do I want to say? Where do I want to take people? What can I play to impact someone’s experience?

This mix is the beginning of that voyage. I finally feel like I’m narrowing down on who I am and what I can offer as a DJ. That feeling feels like a burst of light out of my chest, a little like a frog in my throat, and full of electric charge in my body. Thank you for taking the time to listen. Enjoy the journey 🚀

Bill Brewster is a record collector, DJ, promoter and music writer and consultant. Along with Frank Broughton, he’s responsible for books like Last Night A DJ Saved My Life and How To DJ (Properly), the pair also responsible for the legendary party Low Life, which closed in 2015 after 20 years of fun. As a DJ, Bill is a former Fabric resident who now plays all over the word. He’s also the patron saint of lost causes and in the spirit of that supports Grimsby Town.

During these Covid times I decided to collaborate with creatives around the world. The idea being to combine their art with mine, to see where music could take them as visual artists and hopefully shed light on an industry suffering in the pandemic shadow.   I invited Julia Rado; dancer, phenomenal woman and creator of the fabulous boogie plants, to create a piece for an hour while listening to a dj set I curated to be in tune with her musical world. 

This is Art Of Sound.

It’s been a tough year for us all, but all we can do is stay positive and continue to create. Never give up.

Shugi held residency at the prestigious Club Silencio and Rinse France Radio for several years in Paris and has even performed on top of the Eiffel Tower!

Now based in Lisbon, Shugi not only showcases her talent but also arranges her own parties, including SHUGI NIGHTS, providing a platform for emerging talents to share the stage with established artists and giving crowds that are  hungry for an evening of free flowing self-expression and hedonism, a night to remember. 

With her diverse musical background, unwavering passion for creating a high-energy atmosphere, and natural showmanship, Shugi continues to inspire music lovers worldwide and is undoubtedly a rising talent to watch.
