The Great Loss

More than just music that tries to characterize creatures in my life, this is a love letter to many of the cheesy sounds of the '70s and '80s, with a contemporary take on them. It's a re-imagining of the fundamental elements that define classical, electronic, and nostalgic music. It's also an attempt to share the phenomenon of hallucinations with you. In this album, there are vocals without voices, leading to the sensation of, "did I just hear that." Listen hard and you might hear more than what is actually there. 

Some convey the feeling rather than the actual phenomenon. An easy one to hear this in is "Sewage Matted Hide." Which clearly says through instrumentation, "A walk, a walk, a long long long walk" and, "I hate my life, I want to die." The rest may or may not elicit the phenomenon or feeling for you. (Note that I don't feel the aforementioned way, but did at the time)

This album is finalized to be enjoy on your home Atmos system. I've ensured that it'll even sound acceptable on a crummy cell phone speaker. Enjoy on whatever device you prefer!

Creatura Thema

An album on the creation process; Neurogenesis is about changes and adaptations. That's why one of the fundamental features of this collection will be modal modulation. Other pieces will feature change in another manner.
To progress myself as an artist I look to unexplored horizons; I hope to see you along the way.

Composer's note: Some of these songs were written on the precipice of psychosis, while some were written while experiencing it. You'll notice the break in releases as I recovered. I actually had to learn how to talk with the same articulation that I had prior.

An unforgiving melodic, and progressive, electronic album. It bends genres and breaks rules. These songs travel places and hit notes you won't expect at first, but halfway through the song your brain has a way of understanding it. Despite these pieces traveling through modes and keys, my goal with this album was to make those transitions smooth.

Schneiderian Voices

A hard hitting electronic track with violins, horns, and a complex drum track.

Subterranean

The sun shining on your shoulders and a breeze in the air; the smell of freshly cut grass and months gone snow. 

A relaxing and uplifting song, with a quick pace.

Sunrise On The Wing

A person, who operates a mythical machine that clears the clouds, revealing the sun.

The storm on the horizon is now headed away from us.

Be careful with the volume on this one; there's much sub bass around the frequency of 18Hz. This is the low end of resonant frequencies for the eye, and at high amplitudes, this tone can cause hallucinations and eye jitter. Most stereos do not have this range of frequencies, but neighboring tones can cause the effect as well. Everyone is slightly different.

I don't do this often, but you may have noticed that this is a 4/4, 'four on the floor' song (for the most part). I feel like 4/4 is expected in electronic music, whereas other time signatures, especially the rare kind, can make for a rhythmically exciting song.

Cloudbreak Operator

You made it out of the woods, but you're not as such, so to speak. Now it's time for a serious conversation with the one you've been running from.

The instrumentation is 100% heavily effected piano, save for the drums. There are 4 different pianos playing simultaneously at times.

Escaped from defeated foes, but your mind remains vigilant. How can you find peace again?

I gotta stop writing these songs with irrational time signatures.

Yes, as the tag suggests, this song does go black midi at times. Some people enjoy that. It actually gives me chills and I find it soothing.

Determined to lose your foe, you head for the woods; it begins to rain.

Do you feel shorted? This song is called "What a Pittance" because of the vocal cadence found within the repeating bassline.

A Mixolydian song in Rondo form with comparative parts being twice as long. It has a way of getting stuck in one's head.
This piece also features the irrational time signature of 6/6.

From Dorian to Phrygian, like nothing you've heard before.
Titled gasp because the backing chords are trying to 'breathe' through, but never fully get a chance.

A dreamlike flight through the skies, weaving through high trees and catching updrafts.

An experimental electronic trip through three melodic paths.

A melodic progressive number with four separate solos.
Like an electronic leaf floating down the river, this song moves along.

A warm and somehow uplifting song in harmonic minor. This piece contains 4 piano solos.

Picture happy trees getting their much-needed rain. This song switches keys midway through; can you notice?

Petrichor

8 different key changes and two solos are featured on this track. It also showcases the Insen scale from Japanese music.

Kintsukuroi

A dense song that hits you like a fever dream.

It sounds like the warm side of blue.
This tune is written in the irrational time signature of 5/5. Music just doesn't get written this way. 
Also, this piece features a melodic call and response. It's written in Phrygian G. I hope you find it beautiful.

Do you choose to fight the dizziness and press on to your goal?
This song features a storm of notes and, expertly plucked oud solos.

Great conversations start with a single phrase. This song features two synths having a talk.

A complex piece that features five musical points. It utilizes the irrational time signature of 6/5.

This song travels through various keys in the mode of Locrian.

Minuet Of Awful Days

A song stapled together along the way; ode to the rat king.
Aside from being a bad omen, the Rat King is sometimes how I feel when I've not cared to change or shower in some time.

Too, there is a family of rats that live out by the dumpster where I smoke. One of the larger ones has trouble jumping into the structure and I've seen him fall several times. This song is also for that rat and the similar struggles we experience. None of this is sarcasm, I'd say as much. It's beautiful to find something little and learn to care deeply about it. This is how you grow your care.

An electronic song about a depressed frog, written in the time signature of 8/2.  

He's sad and hates his life; you might hear him sing as much. 

(There are no actual lyrics in this song, it's the FX uncanny distortion on the backing chords that make it sound like someone saying, "I hate my life, I want to die".) 

**This is not a vague way for me to cry for help, but an expression of how I have felt many times.**

Imagine the naivete of scoffing at danger. This song is of that ignorance and doesn't contain the surprise the title may imply.

Fawn and Headlight

A bass-heavy track made to honor the multitude of bats that take flight at night. A "Flight of the Bats" if you will.

****With the right playback environment, this song will induce visual hallucinations of a physical sort; the periphery is especially active. This is due to the persistent and recurring use of 16hz, which is also the resonant frequency of the eye. I recommend using amplified studio headphones to experience this.****

Chiroptera Exodus

This song is about a raccoon that I've seen wandering about. I once mistook him for a handbag by the side of the trash, with a remarkable design on it. After I walked closer it was clear that this was no handbag, but a creature. He leered at me defensively but soon was overcome by whatever loot he'd acquired and, paid me no mind.
I've seen him since, including one encounter where this same wild animal had climbed to my second story door; that's another story. 
Ever since that first day, he's been named Handbag, for my mistake, and his lack of a tail. What a rough little buddy.

This song is about a happy society marching their leader to such a device. Check out the walking drums, the slice, and thud as the well-placed receptacle functions.

Did you know there's an invasive snail in Texas called the Decollate Snail? It eats other snails, yikes!

I had a dream once where I bit into a lightbulb and entered another world filled with clowns. The whole town I entered was functional on the surface, just populated with clowns. In the distance more sinister sights were to behold. One of them was on fire. A straw roof shack with a heart on the counter, as if for sale. A pauper clown, sleeping below the counter, body covered by a patched quilt; Schrodinger's clown, still as winter nights. Anyways, don't bite lightbulbs and you should be safe from the dismal alleys of clown town.

Una Dura Mater is Latin for "One Tough Mother."

This song is a double entendre, or as I call them, double entrees. It's a song paying homage to my dog Brodie, after Ms. Dalle herself; since my dog is tough, and a mother. Also the Dura Mater is the outer layer of our brains, and it is actually quite tough.

I'm a writer of uncannily tuned melodies and incorporator of irrational time signatures. If something hits you as odd that you play or see from my creations, it's because I want you to notice the beauty in deviance and dissonance for yourself. With each piece, I lovingly place nuance and hide meaning; songs should tell a story, even if only through instrumentation. 

With the name Shuriken Miasma, I’m trying to evoke the sound of my music; frequencies, like a cloud of tiny daggers, finding the vital spaces of your ear. Sharp highs and warm lows are the vehicles this assault usually takes. These songs use the full spectrum of stereo, which helps take you to the music. I also want you to feel the emotion or circumstance I’m writing about.
 
Most of my inspiration comes from my life experiences as a human, martial artist, student, and person with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

I’ve written about sunny days, walking along the sidewalk. I’ve worked arduously to convey moments of psychosis I experience due to my neurological disorder, even hallucinations, and feelings of unease. The song “Throw you in the River;” is what I would describe as a musical argument, in the form of call and response. The album "Creatura Thema" is an experimental attempt at sharing the phenomenon of hallucinations with the listener, but also has many thematic layers beyond that; an onion of an album. I guarantee there’s a song on here that will worm its little way into your brain funnels. 

I compose original music and strive to learn more with each song completion. I’ve been writing music for 10 years, and my knowledge has been enriched by several years of experience working as an audio engineer. My music theory is self-taught, and about five years in I began to experiment with modal music. 

Today I primarily work with modal music and like to challenge myself by constraining my compositions to various arbitrary rules from track to track. Sometimes nostalgia blooms and my song reminds you of a video game you once played. Other pieces will take you to the edge of sadness; if that's your thing I suggest you listen to my song "SAd Cacter;" purposely miscased to connote the key the song is in.
