Rational Lies (with bridge)

Due to my usually subdued nature, I don't always make the best or strongest of impressions, but I think people, oftentimes, do seem to remember something about me. A friend of mine once said that I am the real life equivalent of Ralph Wiggum. Except for the fact that we are both naïve, good hearted, well meaning, and a bit socially awkward, I really do not see the resemblance... though I do love Lisa Simpson, have a fondness for eating paste, and my parents, too, won’t let me use scissors. Perhaps there is a little more Wiggum in me than I'd like to admit, but there's so much more to me.

Whatever people may think of me, I doubt that, although their perception of me may be apt given my outer “veneer”, they do not realize that there is a lot more to me than meets the eye... more layers to this onion, if you will. Well, here I am in a nutshell...

I AM RYAN. I like to read and I like to write, though I am painfully slow at both. I love listening to music, and I love making music and singing karaoke with a group of friends. I love movies made with thought and emotion and movies that inspire, yet I also favor movies that make me laugh and are completely ridiculous. I believe in truth, beauty, freedom, love, but above all things, God. And I love this world and time He has placed me in so very much, but I cannot help but shake my head oftentimes and wonder just where this world is headed.

I do consider myself rather unique and somewhat unusual in my thinking, yet I feel I am quite sympathetic to other people's perspectives and that there's always some sort of method to my own madness. I am what Goldilocks would call, "Just right." (Yes, if you hadn't noticed yet, I use odd and obscure references sometimes when I write, similar to Dennis Miller commentating on Monday Night Football.) I am just the right amount of machismo and sensitivity; compassion and toughness; serious and silly. I am what people would call "safe" and secure, yet I can be spontaneous and quirky. I am passionate about certain things and certain topics, but I always try to be open-minded and am willing to try almost anything... within reason. I am quiet and shy, but really, truly get to know me, and your life will never, ever be the same again... perhaps.
