This set was created for the PsynOpticz showcase by Dan Scot, a Cape Town artist recently signed to the label. From a young age, DAN SCOT has had a passion for the electronic outdoor scene – specifically Psychedelic Trance. His musical journey began 14 years ago with techno on turntables and finally finding his love for psytrance all the while being nurtured into what is the Dan Scot sound today. Countless sets over the years influenced by his peers and the massive trance community, has blasted his sound into a much more rolling punch ranging from daytime through to mind-bending Nighttime Fullon Psychedelia. EINHERJAR ORIGINS :

The einherjar, in Old Norse, literally “those who fight alone”, are the band of the spirits of elite warriors who have died in battle and are brought to Valhalla, the magnificent hall of the god Odin, by Valkyries. 

Noble Viking warriors aspired to become one of the einherjar after they died.

The lifestyle of the einherjar would have been the envy of living Vikings. All day long, they fight one another, doing countless valorous deeds along the way. But every evening, all their wounds are healed, and they are restored to full health.

They would work up quite an appetite from all those battles, and their dinners don’t disappoint. Their meat comes from the boar Sæhrímnir (Old Norse), who comes back to life every time he is slaughtered and butchered. For their drink they have mead that comes from the udder of the goat Heiðrun (Old Norse). They thereby enjoy an endless supply of their exceptionally fine food and drink. They are waited on by the beautiful Valkyries.

However, Odin doesn’t keep the Einherjars around just so they can enjoy extravagant pleasures. He has a particular purpose in mind for them, and they’ve all been carefully selected to fulfill this purpose…

At Ragnarok, the final battle between the gods and the giants, Odin is fated to fight the dreadful wolf FENRIR. The einherjar will fight valiantly by his side. But despite all their fearless efforts, they are doomed to fall with their master – and with the rest of the cosmos as well.

I have been involved behind the scenes in the Psytrance scene for quite some time. First working for Flying Rhino back in 2001 and then for TIP for quite a long time for around 7 years.
Since 2009 I’ve been in Beijing helping to kick off the scene here in China by throwing parties and launching a record label under the name GoaProductions.
Its a great time to be involved in the scene here as everything is new and fresh.
I thought it was about time that i put out some of my own music for people to check out and so here we have my project “Atoned Splendor” which is an anagram of my name.
