Serious Hots EP - Preview

Greg Foat is one of the UK’s leading jazz pianists, composers and music producers who has worked with a diverse selection of musicians including Moses Boyd, Bob Lind, Curtis Lundy, Rita Ora, Questlove, Lady Blackbird and The Kooks. In recent years he’s recorded for Jazzman Records, Athens of The North and Strut. Something of a musical maverick, his solo and collaborative albums touch on everything from spiritual jazz, library music and soundtrack sounds, to Balearic beats, jazz-funk, and deep house.

On this release Greg Foat deviates into the world of Detroit deep techno, utilizing his arsenal of obscure 80’s synths. On hearing the original ‘Psychosynthesis’ from Greg’s album (released on Blue Crystal records), Ross thought it needed a remix to make it the epic techno cut that it so obviously is waiting to be! To do this, Ross brings in Beyonce collaborator Foremost Poets, plus the musical genius that is Crooked Man who gets to grips with it too. Psychosynthesis Part 1 & 2 just dropped on the 5th August. New Jersey DJ & producer Foremost Poets Remix lands 26th August, then legendary Sheffield producer Crooked Man further shines a light on the track, his Crooked Man Remixes following on in September. Her phone screen stared back at her, its brightness forced her to squint in the darkness of her bedroom. She poured over her phone night and day; getting lost in apps that nobody needed; falling into video wormholes in the depths of social media; doom scrolling sections of the internet that she never knew existed. Without it she felt as though she were missing a limb, it had become an extension of her very being - how could she possibly live in a world without cute cat videos, emoji conversations and countless filters at her fingertips?

Leeds-based independent radio station NARR was launched just a few years ago as a space to share and discover experimental music from across the world, from new beat and post-punk to ballroom and noise. As a way to raise money for their studio costs and the running of the station, they've announced their first compilation cassette that's comprised of 10 tracks from NARR residents and friends. Made up of music from the likes of Monophonik, Bleaching Agent and Zmatsusi, the release digs into the outsider sounds at the heart of the station including new wave, synth-pop, avant-garde electronics and dubwise selections.

“We slowly rot” was originally a tag that Front de Cadeaux found on a chair in the botanic garden in Rome. It refers to the necessary and permanent epistemological breakdown that music creation and its evolution requires.

Reda Saiarh's music is a blend of the old and the new. The Belgium-born, Geneva-based producer caught the music bug initially through his Moroccan father whose record collection was a treasure trove of classic new beat sounds. 

It's this iconic Belgian era that motivates Reda's musical ventures, but he always brings his own modern twist to the table, which sees him throwing fresh electronic sounds into the mix. 

When he's not hunkering down in the studio, he's keeping the spirit alive musically and culturally at Canal 54, the cafe he runs alongside friends Sam and Yacine in the heart of the city. 

Now, we first cottoned onto him after the release of his debut EP, Let's Dance, for Afrobotic Musicology and knew we had to work with him some way, some how. And so we did on his sophomore EP, Comfort Zone. Released last month on our sub-label Human Endeavour, which followed his track contribution to the imprint's first VA compilation, the five tracks showcases his unique and forward-thinking approach to new beat.

Off the back of his release, we wanted to show you that he's not only a dab hand in the studio, but also behind the decks. Bringing you a dose of the sounds that inspire his own productions, Reda packs this hour mix full of 80s goodness, oddball disco, proto house, and of course a whole lotta glam new beat heat...
