Greer mic, ce fericit ești,
care-n crengile de arbori
ridicat de-un strop de cântec
ca un rege viețuiești.
E al tău cam tot ce vezi,
tot ce ora vrea s-aducă
din grădini și din livezi.
Tu trăiești prin negre brazde,
nu te vatămă țăranii,
tu, de muritori slăvitul,
birui grijile și anii.
Chiar și Phoebus te iubește;
Muzele cu drag ascultă
de argint, cântarea-ți multă.
Bătrânețea nu te-ajunge,
ești poeților tovarăș.
Tu, născut ești fără carne,
fără sânge, fără semeni.
Niciodată tu nu suferi,
numai zeilor te-asemeni.

Small cricket, how happy you are,
who in the branches of the trees
raised by a drop of song
as a king lives.
It's yours almost everything you see,
whatever the hour wants to bring
from gardens and orchards.
You live among black furrows,
the peasants do not harm you,
you, the glorified by mortals,
you win over worries and years.
Even Phoebus loves you;
the Muses listen with pleasure
of silver, your rich song.
Old age doesn't arrive to you,
you are the comrade of poets.
You were born without flesh,
without blood, without peers.
You never suffer,
you resemble only to the gods.
