Something came over me; I was terrified.   
I had to think of family; 	I had to decide.
If we were ever meant to be free – I had to face that line.
It was my responsibility; the struggle it was mine.
I grabbed my overcoat to face the cold; I shivered anyway.
I knew somehow my story would be told if I fell along the way.
The fear in me just mounted, I could hear my heart beatin’ inside.
But I had to save my family and my  tearful  bride.
 
As I walked out the door, the fear showed in my eyes.
Can’t forget the words she said, “Don’t forget the milk and bread.”

The salt trucks went out yesterday, and again this morning.
I shuddered when I heard them say, “Storm warning!”
My heart was beating rapidly almost out of my chest.
Though they cautioned to stay inside, I thought I knew best.

As I walked out the door, “Don’t forget the kitty litter!”
Funny she’d say that.  We don’t own a cat!
