The Naked King is the final chapter in my « King Of Blends » trilogy of mix tapes (the previous instalments are 2016’s 100% RADIO HITS and 2017’s Impressions). I wanted to explore once again the world of blends and giving iconic pop pieces as well as classic underground tunes a new context by layering them with more modern and/or obscure tracks. I wanted it to be about finding beauty in anachronisms and considering time not as a line but as a dot where Squarepusher, Lil Flip, Rod Lee, Lorenzo Senni and Finn’s music are happening simultaneously. I wanted to go against the rules of progression in DJ sets, while maintaining a fluidity that resists tempo and key changes. It is a stream of consciousness that ends up being more informed by the construction of a Lil Wayne verse than the typical temporality of your conservative DJ’s latest techno mix. Every track builds on the flow of the previous one played, but then i realized it went from a jungle track to a Houston rap acapella to a grime beat to an accelerated Miami club track to MF Doom, and i thought it was fine, because it’s all the same music to me and it all makes perfect sense. Lots of tracks are played at the wrong speed, things slow down and accelerate again, and the ride itself, no matter how chaotic, becomes the message. In the year when every one is acting surprised that t’s acceptable again for DJs to « play anything », i wanted to show the world what « play anything » truly means.

Graciously, we have been given permission by our comrade, Kosmik of the Black Lodge to present a live three hour session by Traxx from Feb 2019 at the afforemention Black Lodge party in Los Angeles.

What can be said? There is Traxx and then there is everyone else. Plain and simple one of our favorite musical architects, always pushing the limits, always pushing music to the edge, unpredictable, never stagnant and always seeking what is next. Taking the past and fusing it with the present and beyond, the roots are never forgotten but expanded upon and pushed further with his unique personal style, time and again.

The 3 songs on this record started out with a concept. No more than 15 tracks/stem could be used in the production of it. It was a challenge to myself (who likes to work with big choir arrangements otherwise) to focus  on the production and to allow myself to go minimal. All the 3 tracks work with the same synth for a bass-line and grew from there.

Personal and Global shifts in BIFs close surroundings inspired the lyrics. Most of all an argument with my right-wing leaning father lead to Dinosaur Shakedown an ode to end toxic masculinity all over the world and a kick in the butt for patriarchal creatures and the likes.

Gay harder grew out of resistance to that same male toxicity, the dinosaurs of this world elude and retain and is to be understood as an antidote. GAY HARDER!

Watch it burn grew from the urgency to act about global climate change - we have no time to loose.

When the Sick Girls started to spin their favorite tracks in clubs back in 2004 Berlin was still all about Techno. A change was overdue and the girls found themselves right in the center of it. Grime, Dubstep, Bass; The new sound from the UK underground combined with Gangsta Rap, B-more and Digi-Dancehall was ringing in their ears; Playing for the heck of it proved to be a welcome change from the Berlin Techno monopoly, providing the girls with a platform to showcase all varieties of bass heavy music. More and more fans jumped on board along the way, until it was time to give the maximal sound a home; Sick Girls set up their own party series in 2005, called - Revolution N°5 - a sound concept with no borders and rules, that obeys one master only; the bass has to kick ass! The Sick Girls combine elements from a plethora of music styles, bringing them all together in one big cutting edge hybrid state of the art of contemporary dance music. Playing around the world with like minded folk including Buraka Som Sistema, M.I.A., Major Lazer, Dizzee Rascal, Bonde Do Role etc. alongside presenting their Revolution N°5 clubnight back home in Berlin as well as braodcasting a monthly FM radio show; they are at the epicenter of a self moulded scene, and ready to go off; sick style!
