Ruskaya, or "Russian" in the feminine, is the enemy of the pro-war pop song, Я Русский, which sings obstinately about Russian pride, and uses "Russian" in the default masculine: "Я русский, моя кровь от отца" (I am Russian, my blood comes from my father). Instead, Ruskaya's vocal refrain is dismal and defeatist, making into a prophecy the strained aspirations of a young girl raised in the post-Soviet fatherland: “В европу я не попаду” (I will never get into Europe). We like to think that if you listen closely enough, you can make out the words "Украйна – не твоя"

RUSKAYA (feat. xexexena)

Я Пойду Пойду or "I will go" stems from the melody of a widely recognizable Russian folk song. The original song, performed by a man, is about a white birch. He is a savior, a creator, and his task is to go and cut down the birch: "I will go for a walk, I will break (заломаю) the white birch." He will save it from solitude, give it a function, and make it a musical instrument. We imagine an inversion where the song is performed by a woman, who breaks the original verse, turning it into another instrument. As another act of interception, the style comes from a genre of electro techno that is distinctly Slavic and dominated by masculine personalities.
