UNDERWORLD (Hochi Runs Set, Baltimore) 30/8

SEQUEIRA was raised by dancefloor. Growing up in Singapore’s nightlife scene, SEQUEIRA gained an education in sneaking out of his house, finessing free drinks from club promoters, swindling taxi money back home, and losing himself to the music. It is in these formative years where he discovered both the secret and liberatory potential of dance music. 

That spirit led him to create the infamous themed house parties “Feral Fridays” (FF) when he moved to Washington DC three years ago. Starting out as an effort led out of a Bloomingdale townhouse, FF are a nightlife space for people of color to make connections and for amateur DJs to spotlight their talents, no matter how rough the edges are. As FF began to expand, SEQUEIRA graduated from resident aux-chord-hoarder to the person behind the decks. 

Whether it is the lost disco records of 1970s Mumbai, clandestine daytime raves in 1990s multicultural London, pirate soul records born under martial law in the Philippines, SEQUEIRA’s sets submerge themselves across geographies and genres. Usually centered around a theme or aesthetic, SEQUEIRA’s sets are immersive experiences with an open invitation for the listener to fully embody the fantasy of the night. From the balmy techno beats of Goa, the resplendent disco strings of Bangalore, and the shimmering pop sheen of Singapore, SEQUEIRA’s sets are love letters to the coasts that raised him.
