Lapis Lazuli Light: Teachings for Health Professionals in Bhutan & Beyond, 2 August 2022, Online

When we talk about healing, we think about healing the body, but for buddhists mind is primary and body is secondary, so dealing with disorders of the mind is paramount. Buddhism has very progressive views on how to restore an ailing mind. Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche responds to five questions posed by Bhutanese health professionals on the topic of Buddhism and healing. The lapis lazuli stone is blue, like the Medicine Buddha and the sky: the largest natural blue thing in our world. We see the sky above us; it is both there and not there. This space is one of the greatest metaphors in Buddhism to express emptiness or shunyata, and understanding emptiness heals everything.

Dit was oorspronkelijk een voorbereidende meditatie voor de Lichtcirkel 'Ontwaken in het Licht van de Ene', van 9 t/m 13 December 2022. Maar je kunt deze meditatie altijd doen als je behoefte hebt aan inkeer, aan verbinding met jezelf. Even loskoppelen van wat er om je heen gebeurt, en naar binnen voelen: 'Wie ben IK ook al weer?' Een heerlijk rustpunt; JIJ en de BRON. Voor ieder moment van de dag dus.

Practising vipassana is all about experiencing life directly. Sadhana is a systematic means to reach a goal. Though traditional sadhana practice might involve ritual offerings and visualisation of deities, the ultimate goal is to have this direct experience. Traditionally, vipassana practice is associated with sitting straight and focusing on the breath. This practice has much merit and should be upheld, but to apply vipassana in the modern world we need to adopt a much more abundant and infinite approach. We need to train our minds through the contemplation of impermanence, “unsatisfactoriness” (dukkha) and emptiness to find the courage to go outside our comfort zones, to see the world as it is and find liberation through a direct experience of the truth.
