Crafted with care in their Devon studio AAoT is a journey through tribal percussion, sensual purrs, glistening sexy silken liquid leads and of course relentless techy grooves. An exploration of masculine, feminine and androgyny between them. Inspired by sound waves lapping at the endless shores of time herself.

In botany and mycology, a haustorium (plural haustoria) is a rootlike structure that grows into or around another structure to absorb water or nutrients. For example, in mistletoe or members of the broomrape family, the structure penetrates the host's tissue and draws nutrients from it. In mycology, it refers to the appendage or portion of a parasitic fungus (the hyphal tip), which performs a similar function. Microscopic haustoria penetrate the host plant's cell wall and siphon nutrients from the space between the cell wall and plasma membrane but do not penetrate the membrane itself.

The etymology of the name corresponds to the Latin word haustor meaning the one who draws, drains or drinks, and refers to the action performed by the outgrowth.

Inspired by psychedelic electronic music of all kinds, with multiple decades of ass wiggling on dance floors around the world, both outdoors and in dank warehouses; Sideways People produces an eclectic blend of sexy organic beats and grooves. A pinch of dark prog, a chunk of forest, melted into some boiling swamp water. Sprinkle a dash of electro with a tablespoon of sexy house and techno and whipped gently into some trance grooves.  Serve hot with your favourite ethnobotanical.

Sideways People is the project of Steph and Mike,  loved up partners in all things of life making sideways music for sideways people!


We build our music around the belief that the beautiful psychedelic party going public are keen to get spanked sideways at every hour. Dancers deserve to be getting down and deep on the dance floor. 

With this in mind we set out to write tunes that are left of field,  psychedelic,  deliciously deep yet accessible and totally sideways.

Our hobbies include enjoying fungi in all forms, restoring vintage particle accelerators and occasionally nictitating membranes.
