Those who’ve kept their ears tuned to the innovative underground have likely stumbled upon the tribalistic, psychedelic, and focused sounds of Auckland-based producer Eli Høff. Melekan is no exception. Melding traditional psychedelic textures with the deep, introspective palette of the contemporary mental tekno movement, the album constructs a fully immersive world. Synthesised insects chatter, unseen creatures wail, and natural percussive echoes ripple across locked-in low-end grooves, hallmarks of Høff’s hypnotic approach.

Inspired by the bush and doof scenes of Aotearoa and Australia, Melekan feels both ancient and immediate. Its sound suggests a forest alive with ritual: bass hits like the footsteps of larger entities, birdlike chirps flitting through branches, and strange conversations drifting in the wind.

More than a collection of tracks, Melekan is a sonic painting: an ecosystem of rhythm and resonance that dances, breathes, and beckons the listener deeper.

Qi - Magmadiver

No microphones, no recordings. Just a blank digital canvas and a single intention: to translate into sound what an emotional hydrograph might trace.

Each track on this EP draws its own curve: unpredictable flows, sudden surges, deceptive calms. Oscillators stretch, shatter, recombine; rhythms emerge like waves, then dissipate. The experimentation is total digital tools are pushed to their breaking point, teetering on the edge of implosion.

In this process, Ableton is no longer a sequencer but an electronic river.
A shifting bed where sound flows, stagnates, and overflows. No sound was captured: everything was synthesized, processed, distorted, sculpted from pure digital abstraction. And yet, in every modulation, one can sense an artificial breath, an attempt at life.

Listening to this EP means following these invisible hydrographs: feeling the peaks, the troughs, the drifts, surrendering to instability. Because here, nothing is stable and it is within this very instability that emotion is born.
