Guru Ji explains that ego is one of the greatest obstacles on the spiritual path. It disguises itself as pride, self-importance, or attachment to achievements, but in reality it blinds the soul from recognising Vaheguru’s presence. The higher the ego rises, the further we drift from truth.

Through these Saloks, Guru Ji reminds us that real freedom comes only when we let go of the “I” and surrender to the Divine Will. To let the ego go is to open the heart to humility, compassion, and connection with the eternal.

Salok Mahalla 9 - Week 8 - Letting The E-Go

In this episode of our Salok Mahalla 9 series, we reflect on Saloks 23 to 25, where Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji describes life as a fleeting dream.

Guru Ji explains that just as dreams vanish upon waking, so too will the wealth, relationships, and pleasures of this world eventually fade. The danger lies in becoming so attached to this dreamlike existence that we mistake it for reality. When we love the dream, we forget the eternal truth.

Through these Saloks, Guru Ji urges us to recognise the temporary nature of life and redirect our love towards Vaheguru, the only reality that does not pass away. This awareness shifts us from illusion to truth, from attachment to liberation.

These teachings invite us to ask ourselves: am I investing my heart in what will disappear, or in what is eternal?
