salok mahalaa panjavaa ||
Shalok, Fifth Mehla:

ਸਭੇ ਜੀਅ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਅਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੁ ॥
sabhe jeea samaal apanee mihar kar ||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਲੈ; 
In Your Mercy, You care for all beings and creatures.

ਅੰਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਮੁਚੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਭੰਨਿ ਤਰੁ ॥
a(n)n paanee much aupai dhukh dhaaladh bha(n)n tar ||
ਅੰਨ ਪਾਣੀ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਲਿੱਦਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ
You produce corn and water in abundance; You eliminate pain and poverty, and carry all beings across.

ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਦਾਤਾਰਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਠਰੁ ॥
aradhaas sunee dhaataar hoiee sisaT ttar ||
(ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਇਹ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਸੁਣੀ ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ । 
The Great Giver listened to my prayer, and the world has been cooled and comforted.

ਲੇਵਹੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਇ ਅਪਦਾ ਸਭ ਹਰੁ ॥
levahu ka(n)tt lagai apadhaa sabh har ||
(ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਰੱਖ ਅਤੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ ।
Take me into Your Embrace, and take away all my pain.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸਫਲੁ ਘਰੁ ॥੧॥
naanak naam dhiaai prabh kaa safal ghar ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
