Born at village Mulla Hamza in Montgomery District (now in Pakistan) in 1900 A.D., Bhai Samund Singh was given training in music by his father Bhai Hazur Singh Ji from his early child-hood. As a little boy he won a number of prizes and distinctions at musical concerts. He came to be known as 'Kaka Samund Singh' and was much in demand at Sikh congregations. His party came to be known as the best in the understanding of their art and almost perfect in presentation of Gurbani Kirtan. With his unique melo-dious voice, an extensive and deep understanding of Gur-bani, correct interpretation of ragas, attractive style of sing-ing and great human qualities, he reigned supreme for sixty years in the world of Gurbani Kirtan. He performed kirtan at the Gurdwara Janam Sthan, Sri Nankana Sahib, the birth place of Guru Nanak Dev, for many years. He broadcast kirtan for 36 years from All India Radio, Lahore and later from Jalandhar and commanded wide listening. Passers-by stopped in the streets to listen to his kirtan irrespective of their faith. He was invited to perform kirtan in the National Programme of Music by All India Radio, the highest recognition of his art. He was given State award by the Punjab Government in 1971. He passed away at Ludhiana (5th January, 1972).

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀਉ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਜ਼ਰ ਹੈ
Waaheguru is Omnipresent

ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਆਂ ਮਤਾਅ ਉਲ-ਵਰਾ
ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ,
Guru Ram Das, the asset and the treasure of the entire world

ਜਹਾਂਬਾਨਿ ਇਕਲੀਮ ਸਿਦਕੋ ਸਫ਼ਾ ॥ ੬੯ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਿਦਕ ਸਫਾਈ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।
And, is the protector/caretaker of the realm of faith and chastity. (69)

ਹਮ ਅਜ਼ ਸਲਤਨਤ ਹਮ ਅਜ਼ ਫ਼ੁਕਰਸ਼ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਂ
ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਜੋਗ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੰਨ ਹਨ,
He includes (in his personality) symbols of both royalty and renunciation,

ਗਿਰਾਂ ਮਾਯਾ ਤਰ ਅਫ਼ਸਰਿ ਅਫ਼ਸਰਾਂ ॥ ੭੦ ॥
ਉਹ ਤਾਜ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਤਾਜਦਾਰ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ ।  
And, he is the king of kings. (70)

ਜ਼ਿ ਤੌਸਫ਼ਿ ਊ ਸਲਸ ਕਾਸਿਰ ਜ਼ਬਾਂ
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭਾ ਅਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ,
The tongues of all the three worlds, the earth, the underworld, and the skies, are incapable to describe his eclat,

ਅਜ਼ੋ ਰੁਬਅ ਹੱਮ ਸੁਦੱਸ ਗੌਹਰ ਫ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ॥ ੭੧ ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚੋਹਾਂ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਕਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
And, pearls-like messages and words  (metaphors and expressions) from the four Vedaas and six Shaastraas emerge from his utterances. (71)

ਕਿ ਹੱਕ ਬਰਗੁਜ਼ੀਦਸ਼ ਜ਼ਿ ਖ਼ਾਸਾਨ ਖ਼ੇਸ਼
ਰੱਬ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਾਸ ਨਿਕਟ-ਵਰਤੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਚੁਨਿਆ ਹੈ,
Akaalpurakh has selected him as one of His specially close favorites,

ਸਰ ਅਫ਼ਰਾਖ਼ਤਸ਼ ਹਮ ਜ਼ਿ ਪਾਕਾਨੇ ਖ਼ੇਸ਼ ॥ ੭੨ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਰੂਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ੳਚੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
And, has elevated him to even a higher position than His personal sacred souls. (72)

ਹਮਾਂ ਸਾਜਿਦਸ਼ ਦਾ ਬਸਿਦਕਿ ਜ਼ਮੀਰ
ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਦੇ ਹਨ,
Everyone prostrates before him with a truthful and clear conscience,

ਚਿਹ ਆਅਲਾ ਚਿਹ ਅਦਨਾ ਚਿਹ ਸ਼ਹ ਚਿਹ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ॥ ੭੩ ॥
ਕੀ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੀ ਛੋਟਾ, ਕੀ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਕੀ ਫਕੀਰ ।
Whether he is high or low, a king or a mendicant. (73)

ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਤਿਨੈ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ! ਜਿਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਉਸੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਭੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ।
Blessed, blessed is Guru Raam Daas; He who created You, has also exalted You.

ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਕਰਾਮਾਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੈ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
ਇਹ ਇਕ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਕਰਾਮਾਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੇ ਖ਼ੁਦ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Perfect is Your miracle; the Creator Lord Himself has installed You on the throne.

ਸਿਖੀ ਅਤੈ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਿਆ ॥
ਸਭ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਬੰਦਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ।
The Sikhs and all the Congregation recognize You as the Supreme Lord God, and bow down to You.

ਅਟਲੁ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ਤੂ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
(ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ!) ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੋਲਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ;
You are unchanging, unfathomable and immeasurable; You have no end or limitation.

ਜਿਨ੍ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਸੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿਆ ॥
(ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ!) ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੋਲਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ; ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ) ਹਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ, ਪਾਰਲੇ ਤੇ ਉਰਲੇ ਬੰਨੇ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Those who serve You with love - You carry them across.

ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਪਰਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
Greed, envy, sexual desire, anger and emotional attachment - You have beaten them and driven them out.

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੈਸਕਾਰਿਆ ॥
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਲੱਬ, ਲੋਭ, ਕਾਮ, ਕੋ੍ਰਧ, ਮੋਹ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ।(ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ!) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਥੇ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਸਿਆ । ਤੇਰੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ ।
Blessed is Your place, and True is Your magnificent glory.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੂ ਲਹਣਾ ਤੂਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਤੂ ਵੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥
(ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ!) ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਬਾਬਾ ਲਹਣਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ ।
You are Nanak, You are Angad, and You are Amar Daas; so do I recognize You.

ਗੁਰੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਧਾਰਿਆ ॥੭॥
(ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ (ਰਾਮਦਾਸ) ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤਦੋਂ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।੭।
When I saw the Guru, then my mind was comforted and consoled. ||7||
