ਰਾਗੁ ਬਿਹਾਗੜਾ ਚਉਪਦੇ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੨ ॥
Raag Bihaagraa, Chau-Padas, Fifth Mehl, Second House:
ਦੂਤਨ ਸੰਗਰੀਆ ॥
To associate with your arch enemies,
ਭੁਇਅੰਗਨਿ ਬਸਰੀਆ ॥
is to live with poisonous snakes;
ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਰੀਆ ॥੧॥
I have made the effort to shake them off. ||1||

ਤਉ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰੀਆ ॥Then, I repeated the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,
ਤਉ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
and I obtained celestial peace. ||1||Pause||

ਮਿਥਨ ਮੋਹਰੀਆ ॥
False is the love of,
ਅਨ ਕਉ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
many emotional attachments,
ਵਿਚਿ ਘੂਮਨ ਘਿਰੀਆ ॥੨॥
which suck the mortal into the whirlpool of reincarnation. ||2||

ਸਗਲ ਬਟਰੀਆ ॥
All are travelers,
ਬਿਰਖ ਇਕ ਤਰੀਆ ॥
who have gathered under the world-tree,
ਬਹੁ ਬੰਧਹਿ ਪਰੀਆ ॥੩॥
and are bound by their many bonds. ||3||
ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਧ ਸਫਰੀਆ ॥
Eternal is the Company of the Holy,
ਜਹ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹਰੀਆ ॥
where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਰੀਆ ॥੪॥੧॥
Nanak seeks this Sanctuary. ||4||1||

I have met with the holy man; he has attached me to the hem of his robe. ||78||

ਆਸਾ ॥
Aasaa:

ਕਾਹੂ ਦੀਨੇ੍ ਪਾਟ ਪਟੰਬਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਪਲਘ ਨਿਵਾਰਾ ॥
To some, the Lord has given silks and satins, and to some, beds decorated with cotton ribbons.

ਕਾਹੂ ਗਰੀ ਗੋਦਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਖਾਨ ਪਰਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
Some do not even have a poor patched coat, and some live in thatched huts. ||1||

ਅਹਿਰਖ ਵਾਦੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਰੇ ਮਨ ॥
Do not indulge in envy and bickering, O my mind.

ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜੈ ਰੇ ਮਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
By continually doing good deeds, these are obtained, O my mind. ||1||Pause||

ਕੁਮ੍ਹਾਰੈ ਏਕ ਜੁ ਮਾਟੀ ਗੂੰਧੀ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਾਨੀ ਲਾਈ ॥
The potter works the same clay, and colors the pots in different ways.

ਕਾਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਮੋਤੀ ਮੁਕਤਾਹਲ ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥੨॥
Into some, he sets pearls, while to others, he attaches filth. ||2||

ਸੂਮਹਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਕਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
God gave wealth to the miser for him to preserve, but the fool calls it his own.

ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੩॥
When the Messenger of Death strikes him with his club, in an instant, everything is settled. ||3||

ਗੋਂਡ ॥
Gond:

ਨਰੂ ਮਰੈ ਨਰੁ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
When a man dies, he is of no use to anyone.

ਪਸੂ ਮਰੈ ਦਸ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
But when an animal dies, it is used in ten ways. ||1||

ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਮ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮੈ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ॥
What do I know, about the state of my karma?

ਮੈ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ਬਾਬਾ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
What do I know, O Baba? ||1||Pause||

ਹਾਡ ਜਲੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਲਕਰੀ ਕਾ ਤੂਲਾ ॥
His bones burn, like a bundle of logs;

ਕੇਸ ਜਲੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਘਾਸ ਕਾ ਪੂਲਾ ॥੨॥
his hair burns like a bale of hay. ||2||

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਨਰੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
Says Kabeer, the man wakes up,

ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੩॥੨॥
only when the Messenger of Death hits him over the head with his club. ||3||2||

ਜਉ ਜਮੁ ਆਇ ਕੇਸ ਗਹਿ ਪਟਕੈ ਤਾ ਦਿਨ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਬਸਾਹਿਗਾ ॥
ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਭਜਨੁ ਦਇਆ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਤਉ ਮੁਖਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿਗਾ ॥੨॥

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਥਹੁ ਉਸ ਨੋ ਦਿਤੋਨੁ ਤੋਤਾ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਖੇਲਿ ਗਇਆ ਦੇ ਵਣਜੁ ਸਓਤਾ।
ਲਿਵ ਲਗੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਤੋਤਿਅਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਏ ਕਰੈ ਅਸੋਤਾ।
ਪਤਿਤੁ ਉਧਾਰਣੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਪ ਕਲੇਵਰੁ ਧੋਤਾ।
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੁ ਤੋੜਿ ਨਰਕੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਨ ਖਾਧੁ ਸੁ ਗੋਤਾ।
ਗਈ ਬੈਕੁੰਠਿ ਬਿਬਾਣਿ ਚੜ੍ਹਿ ਨਾਉਂ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਛੋਤਿ ਅਛੋਤਾ।

ਛਿਅ ਪੁਤ ਜਾਏ ਵੇਸੁਆ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਇਛੇ ਲਹਿਆ।
ਪੁਤੁ ਉਪੰਨਾਂ ਸਤਵਾਂ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਣ ਨੋ ਚਿਤਿ ਉਮਹਿਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਉ ਨਰਾਇਣੁ ਕਹਿਆ।
ਅੰਤਕਾਲ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਵੇਖਿ ਪੁਤ ਨਰਾਇਣੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਛਹਿਆ।
ਜਮ ਗਣ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਾਂ ਗਇਆ ਸੁਰਗ ਜਮੁ ਡੰਡੁ ਨ ਸਹਿਆ।
ਨਾਇ ਲਏ ਦੁਖੁ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਹਿਆ ॥੨੦॥

ਬਾਹਹੁ ਪਕੜਿ ਉਠਾਲਿਆ ਮਨ ਵਿਚਿ ਰੋਸੁ ਮਤ੍ਰੇਈ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਡੁਡਹੁਲਿਕਾ ਮਾਂ ਪੁਛੈ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਵਾਣੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੁਰੀਤਾ?
ਸਾਵਾਣੀ ਹਾਂ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹੀਤਾ।
ਕਿਸੁ ਉਦਮ ਤੇ ਰਾਜੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤ੍ਰੂ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਮੀਤਾ?।
ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਜਿਦੂ ਹੋਈਐ ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤਾ।
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਕਰਣਿ ਤਪੁ ਮਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹੋਇ ਅਤੀਤਾ।
ਨਾਰਦ ਮੁਨਿ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅਮਿਓ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਤਾ।
ਪਿਛਹੁ ਰਾਜੇ ਸਦਿਆ ਅਬਿਚਲੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤਾ।
ਹਾਰਿ ਚਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਗ ਜੀਤਾ ॥੧॥
