#gallery2408 moves the city into a single hotel room. It is a sculpture installation, a photo gallery and a topographic map full of sound that offers a new and unique way to discover the city of Malmö. The gallery is full of elements that evoke curiosity and lay grounds for new dialogues and reflections. You don’t have to stress your experience, it is just as interesting to scope the surroundings of the room from the comfort of the hotel bed as it is to look for the smallest of details in the different corners of the room.

About the piece
Marcel Leemann Physical Dance Theater has toured internationally with their production «Meat Market» Now, with «Meat Market In Between», the explosive themes of the piece have been reinterpreted to be performed by a cast of young adults. The lives of the young performers are lulling in that moment in between studies and career — they’re grown up and educated, they have stage experience and are ready to plunge into their careers, but they’re unknown and haven’t yet fully exposed themselves to the meat market of the dance and theater scene. This performing project offers the young dancers the opportunity to draw on their own experiences, to reflect critically on their situation and to learn by doing. «Meat Market In Between» is about the market conditions that pervade the dance and theater scene. The choreography explores what it takes to impress the buyer and to sell oneself. Aspiring performers might just as well be laid out on a butcher’s countertop. Who’s the juiciest cut of meat? Which side of themselves do they need to expose in order to be picked? Which personality do they need to perform in order to please the buyer? The discussion centers around the transformation of the individual and his/her body into a marketable product. 31 performers are on stage for «Meat Market In Between». The large number of performers enables the choreography to forcefully illustrate the commodity character of the dance scene. The frantic attempts of individuals to assert themselves are swallowed up by the masses. Flexibility, conformity, and adaptability are all required.

Soundtrack to the performance "Fläkt" by Emma Ribbing 2013

– a narcissistic delusion, a symbolic striptease, 
a poetic brawl between childish puppetry and powerful 
forces of nature.

This is the continuation of the story of the fictional character Mi$$ Maxxx. It all started with a job 
Emma Ribbing got as a dancer in a big tour for pop 
icon Kylie Minogue in 2002. From the experience 
grew a strong need to process the experience of feeling like a small, decorative doll in a large commercial context.
In a collaboration with the Swiss slam-poet Robert Rockobelly Mi$$ Maxxx’s many faces changed 
from being a personal trainer to a wonder-woman 
and a spoiled housewife. Between 2004–2006 she 
performed at smaller clubs and galleries in parodic hip-hop concerts. In 2008 she reappeared in a 
performance for the exhibition Plastic Fantastic at 
Dunkers Kulturhus, Helsingborg. Since then Emma 
Ribbing teamed with sound creator Silas Bieri. Together they seek to further develop their poetry in 
visual art, performance and music. This time with 
the help of a large industrial fan, mechanical sounds 
and a few pink items.
