Mix of the Week #390: Blank Gloss - Iceberg Lettuce

First time on NACHTIs Ambient Stage, but certainly not the first time on stage, LINO REX has played herself into the memories of their primarily laying listeners with dubby tunes and thus created a rhythmic, lulling feel-good atmosphere on late Saturday afternoon. @linol_music has the talent to take her listeners on a journey between percussions and bass, on a dubby trip that can be constructed even after a month again within your own four walls. The three hours are now available for all to hear (and feel) on our SoundCloud. As always, you can find the link in our bio and as a direct link in the stories. We wish you a relaxing start into the weekend with this set.

Toner [ LIMINAL DREAMS ]

Toner grew up heavily influenced by movies, and was baptized into modern techno in the alternative underground music scene he encountered while living in Taiwan. After returning to Japan, he became a captive of the club and rave scene around Tokyo.  Before starting his DJ career, he has been involved in many events as a supporter and reporter, diving deep into the hot spots that continue to expand the boundaries of dance musics. 

Since 2022, he launched the community called "LIMINAL DREAMS" focusing on electronic ambient music with Toss and Kaana, and he has been directed the events in Tokyo. "LIMINAL DREAMS" is homage to the psychedelic chill-out culture that has been around since the 60's, and its community is for music enthusiasts of quirky contemporary electronic music. The event series are currently based in Tokyo and Vietnam, and recognized as a bridge between the ambient scene in the West to Asia.

Toner as a DJ has a strong minimalism approach to his musics. He is a humorous player and can weave a various story beyond the beat.

This track represents the idea that within each of us lies a spark of the divine. A reminder that we are creators, reflections of godlike energy in human form. 
The music on this project is meant to awaken that awareness, to remind us of our higher selves and the sacred power we carry inside.

Through deep rhythms and textures, I want listeners to feel that connection to their own divinity that we are more than just people, we are gods experiencing ourselves through music.

It is undeniable that we are living in uncertain times. For those of us failing to fit the patriarchal, neoliberalist mould we have lost hope in the future. We can see capitalism is not working but we cannot yet envisage an alternative. We discover that the stability we were instructed to obtain whether it be financial, political or ecological, is fleeting, if at all. The resulting anxiety is an instrument of neoliberalism that prevents many of us from being able to raise consciousness of the structural injustices that alienate us.

In a world where security is no longer feasible, the only constant we can rely on is change. Barad teaches us that the world is a dynamic process of intra-activity and materialisation, an ongoing ebb and flow of agency. The Buddhist Law of Impermanence proves that nothing in this world is eternal.

Regardless of ones point of reference we can understand that every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux and perhaps this transience is the only thing we can depend on.

Each month we invite an artist to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can speculate on alternate modes of existence that reject hetero- patriarchal systems of oppression.

This month we have invited @hydrangeamusic to respond to this concept.
