Sometimes all you crave is some pumping house music, and burgeoning Glaswegian producer James Vox delivers exactly that, with style and intent. Inspired by the mid-’00s sound of labels like Soma Records, it was only a matter of time before his demos found their way to Silicone Soul’s grateful ears and onto Darkroom Dubs.

But these traxx are no simple homage. On Pressure, ’70s Kingston meets with Slam’s legendary club night uptown for a late-night jam, packed with Trojan-era toasting and a massive Reese-style bassline, built for darkrooms and peak moments. Second track, Clouds, motions into deeper territory, but there’s no let-up in pace or vibe. With a killer breakdown, it delivers undistilled, pure house joy. Then, closing the EP, Let It Go lands sweetly between the twin pillars of house and techno, blending Detroit-tinged electronics with the unmistakable energy of a Love Sensation-age Loleatta Holloway.

Unbridled, club-primed, and ready to ride into the festive season, James Vox’s productions have already caught the attention of Karotte, Radio Slave, and Harvey McKay. As a debut, it’s an impressive statement, channelling the Darkroom Dubs spirit with precision.

Legendary Glaswegian duo Silicone Soul return to their longstanding Darkroom Dubs label mix series with a smouldering fifth edition. Inspired by the sudden splash of freedom and the shows they have been able to play this summer, and that great shared rush of energy we have all experienced in recent months. 

Available as both a mixed excursion into the deepest corners of the Darkroom Dubs psyche and as a collection of unmixed tracks, Darkroom Dubs Vol. V focuses on the label's recent releases, bringing us all up to speed on the underground sound they have always stood for and reminding us of the instantly distinctive and consistent signature they have spent the best part of 20 years honing and refining.

A sonic hurricane from the off, Middle Sky Boom’s ‘Netzach’ is the perfect intro. It pulls the listener into its cosmic universe, locking them in for a transcendent 13-track trip to the dancefloor. Whipping up a moody tale of sweeping pads, synths rich in emotion, sudden plunges into deep, abyssal basslines, and rolling tones of hypnotic percussive momentum, Silicone Soul guides us to every corner of the Darkroom Dubs vault.

The planet-moving low end of Sigward’s remix of Id!r’s ‘Monday’, meets the nagging, raggedy acid of Justin Robertson’s Deadstock 33s ‘Dr Spectro on the Frontier’. While fantastic curveballs like Skinnerbox’s epic covers of Blancmange and Bauhaus collide with the hypnotic, new wave, techno soul of Dino Lenny's ‘Chained to a Ladder’. With cuts and remixes from Amount, II Est Vilaine, Alejandro Paz & Local Suicide, Undo and more, the duo showcase the label’s inimitable dark and beguiling sound. 

Some tracks are brand new, while others have been staples in their DJ sets for some time; however, all of them are built to last and will capture imaginations for years to come. Featuring Shall Ocin’s remix of Silicone Soul’s most recent track ‘Fahrenheit 625’, and climaxing with Fango’s remix of their game-changing hit ‘Right On, Right On’, Darkroom Dubs Vol. V is a stark reminder that the spirit of the label is still very much alive and, while our time off the dance floor was temporary, the music will last forever.

2013 saw Silicone Soul celebrating the 10th Anniversary of their Darkroom Dubs imprint. Launched in Glasgow back in 2003, the DRD stamp has become a mark of quality and seen many established names exploring deeper realms whilst also unearthing fresh and exciting global talent. 

From Fabric to Watergate, The Standard Rooftop to Club Bahrein Buenos Aires, the Scottish duo have celebrated their disco-decade with a string of '10 Year' parties spread across the last 12 months, building on Darkroom Dubs already strong global reach. 

To round off their birthday in style Craig and Graeme have asked some of the label's main acts and strongest supporters to contribute a track for a new compilation. Artists including jozif, Ryan Crosson, Uner, Gary Beck, Of Norway and Simon Garcia all feature in the collection that Silicone Soul present as a snapshot of the future sound and musical vision of Darkroom Dubs.

Prowling into club season with intent, Darkroom Dubs usher in the long nights with this powerful two-tracker from Alvaro Cabana & Fargo Devianti. Please welcome ‘Los Flagelantes’.

Madrid meets Guadalajara on a mission of deep, pulsating 3 am funk. This transatlantic link-up has been brewing since Rotten City bossman Alvaro signed rising talent Fargo’s 'Storm In A Teacup' EP with Vongold last year. A tense lesson in stark late-night electronica, the release follows a selection of resounding outings from Fargo on Hard Fist, leading to these two dark disco dispatches, ‘Flagelantes' and ‘Tacha'.

Two sides to a unique sonic story, both cuts come with their own deep inspirations and conceptual ideas. 'Flagelantes' takes us back to medieval foundations when a fanatical underground sect sought penance through pain. Los Flagelantes were a strict disciplinarian brotherhood that welcomed whipping as a means to resolve their sins. Seven hundred years later, the only flagellation required now is to whip your dancefloor into shape, and with its stalking nature and stark peaks and troughs, this will most certainly do that. 

‘Tacha' follows suit with a much more chaotic dynamic. A hearty nod to the post-punk, dark wave 80s sound, especially the influential Parálisis Permanente. They soundtracked the winds of change during the Movida Madrileña counter-culture in post-Franco Madrid. There's a hazy, woozy, cosmic fuzz sizzling palpably over the swaggering bass guitar and rolling, relentless kicks. It's real heady, shoegaze material. If ‘Flagelantes’ whips dancefloors into shape, 'Tacha' hypnotises them into submission. 

Two wholly different techniques and concepts, but the same result: complete dancefloor escapism. Just how Darkrooms Dubs like it. Stay tuned.

Having fired us to the Outer Limits with his previous dispatch on Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs, Glaswegian space-funkateer Am$trad Billionaire fires up the green screen once again on a fresh brace of constellation capers!

Kick starting the year with the aptly titled Capricorn, the horny beast races from the traps, driven by its powerful drums and rebellious untamed spirit. A chilling melody and call of the wild, are at odds with the rock solid electronic strut, yet work brilliantly together to create our astrologic opener. 

Warrior, poet, and fellow zodiac creature, Sagittarius, serves up a slice of optimistic flair. Glittering keys cascade and shimmer, atop a pulsating beat and swirling synths to create a cinematic soundtrack as much at home in the chill of winter as the freshness of spring. 

Two celestial offerings, both firmly in the ascendance.

Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs continues its celebratory 20th season with a return to the label for Factor City duo, Undo & Casiowaves. Together we strap in for another voyage into the unknown as the Catalonian duo deliver a trademark selection of audio wonderment on their Moviment EP. 

Here We Are sets the tone. Melodic synths, metronomic kick-drum and a bass-heavy pulse fires the listener into orbit. With its effortlessly flowing and progressive build, the track wraps us in warming atmospherics as we embark on the voyage. 

Moviment delivers a delicate touch, with cascading harmonies and an irresistible hook garnishing a bassline that simmers away beneath the beauty. 

Artefacto brings the EP to close with a bang. Sporting oscillating basslines and sharp snares, this cosmic closer is a ferocious ride and the perfect finale to Undo & Casiowaves latest cinematic excursion.

SILICONE SOUL: SPÆCIAL MIX 406

For our next installment we are excited to have French comrades REMAIN & daWad, both who shared an affinity for dark melodic, synthetic and sometimes atmospheric 90s touches that gives birth to their own cyber electronic music. Both longtime producers and veterans of the dance scene shares as a duo project, “Drowsy” an EP with the eclectic tact that characterise them.

Dazzled, the first single of the EP comes with an intrinsic touch that dives between hypnotic synths, stabs and a restless bass along with dreamy voices which calls for a night out.

Comatose on the other hand promises to defy any dancefloor driving the listener through an static and trembling bass line, drifted vocals and a persisting beat building up constantly on a 
perfect club ride.

Following the 2 original tracks, we’re thrilled to have legend Silicone Soul & Prinze’s, remixing Comatose on a beautiful Acid dub that is nothing short but mesmerizing, along with label mate Kabinett who doesn’t cut short to add harmony a drives all night with his take on Dazzled.

We're delighted to welcome back Amount, aka Nayan Soukie, to Darkroom Dubs as he returns with four subterranean throbbers that effervesce with trance-inducing lawlessness. 

A Darkroom Dubs favourite who first debuted in 2013 as one-half of house-combo Soukie & Windish. Since then, he's flourished as a renowned producer, DJ, and seasoned live performer, developing a penchant for sleazy burners primed for the darkest of rooms and those hazy, sunrise-lit, after-hours moments. 

This latest offering from the Berlin native, entitled Zeroton, is an essential addition to an already impressive back catalogue, with appearances on imprints such as Feines Tier, Running Back, Frank Music and his own URSL label.

Berlin’s Dirt Crew deliver a powerful rework of Inferno. Amplifying the original's deep dub foundations, they lay down an irresistible Italo-disco bassline while framing the timeless toast — 'What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul?’ The result is a remix that balances spiritual gravitas with dancefloor intensity, a reminder of Dirt Crew’s signature touch during their own breakthrough years.

These remixes have been lovingly remastered by Conor Dalton (Glowcast Audio) from the original DATs, giving DJs, collectors, and new listeners a fresh chance to experience two standout reinterpretations from the Silicone Soul archive. Twenty years on, they remain as vital as ever.

Sometimes all you crave is some pumping house music, and burgeoning Glaswegian producer James Vox delivers exactly that, with style and intent. Inspired by the mid-’00s sound of labels like Soma Records, it was only a matter of time before his demos found their way to Silicone Soul’s grateful ears and onto Darkroom Dubs.

But these traxx are no simple homage. On Pressure, ’70s Kingston meets with Slam’s legendary club night uptown for a late-night jam, packed with Trojan-era toasting and a massive Reese-style bassline, built for darkrooms and peak moments. Second track, Clouds, motions into deeper territory, but there’s no let-up in pace or vibe. With a killer breakdown, it delivers undistilled, pure house joy. Then, closing the EP, Let It Go lands sweetly between the twin pillars of house and techno, blending Detroit-tinged electronics with the unmistakable energy of a Love Sensation-age Loleatta Holloway.

Unbridled, club-primed, and ready to ride into the festive season, James Vox’s productions have already caught the attention of Karotte, Radio Slave, and Harvey McKay. As a debut, it’s an impressive statement, channelling the Darkroom Dubs spirit with precision.

Silicone Soul are back behind the controls: Digging deep into the last few years of their label’s releases, the Glaswegian duo weave a deep cosmic thread through their label’s vast yet consistently mesmerising output to create yet another soul-shrouding, attention-arresting mix that sounds unlike any other.

Strictly drawing from their own label curations means the mix creates its own boundary-burning realm of timelessness. Whether it’s the deep reverberations and synth shimmers of Pedro Aguiar’s 'Western Digital', the spiked-out acidic rigorousness of Justin Robertson’s remix of Dimitri Veimar, the outright funk-blasted trippiness of Skinnerbox or the poignant ebbs and flows of Dubspeeka’s 'Time', Craig Morrison and Graeme Reedie’s selection consistency runs throughout… Both as DJs and as label owners.

This is key to Craig and Graeme’s vision since Darkroom Dubs launched in 2003: To celebrate, nurture and push the underground music they love to play, make and support. Those musical moments lure your attention and imagination, pulling you into their own worlds where not all is as it seems; organic and digital, house and techno, release and restraint all entwine with a sense of momentum, direction and often deep hypnosis.

To kick-start the celebrations of a formidable ten years of their Darkroom Dubs imprint, Silicone Soul's Craig Morrison and Graeme Reedie present the first of several very special releases and events scheduled in early 2013. 'Darkroom Dubs Vol. 3 - Compiled & Mixed by Silicone Soul' is a retrospective that charts some of the many highlights from the label throughout the past few years, since the release of Vol. 2 in early 2010.

First appearing on Scotland's seminal Soma label in 1998, DJ-production duo Craig Morrison and Graeme Reedie, aka Silicone Soul, have occupied a special place in the overcrowded field of electronic dance music, mainly through the depth and quality of their recordings plus an innate understanding of music's grand heritage and its constant development. They have released four critically acclaimed albums, gained residencies at some of Europe's most celebrated clubs, scooped numerous DJ Mag nominations, stormed the UK charts and launched their Darkroom Dubs label in 2003.

Each release has carried Dracula author Bram Stoker's infamous words, "I am beginning to feel this nocturnal existence tell on me. It is destroying my nerve. I start at my own shadow and am full of all sorts of horrible imaginings..." Personifying the label's elevation above usual dance music concerns. 

A short video featuring a collage of still and startling silent movie surrealism produced to mark the tenth anniversary, underlines the Darkroom Dubs ethos that the deep, the weird, and the timelessly cool have co-existed with organic ferocity over the last decade.

Emerging from the ethereal space echoes and cosmic reverb of compilation opener 'One Thing (Ghost FX)', filters through a quote from Flight of the Phoenix - 'I think a man only needs one thing in life and that's someone to love, if you cant give him that, give him something to hope for, if you can't give him that, then just give him something to do'. The mix then glides into the minimal sounds of Of Norway's 'Blot Ditt Eige Lam (Frisvold & Lindbaek Remix)' and beyond. 

Over the course of the mix, we're expertly navigated through a slew of tracks oozing with soothing, melodic deepness, carefully blending special cuts like Terje Saether's 'Scared' and Los Suruba's dubbed out remix of AFFKT's 'Fail Fast' into the understated build of Patlac's retake of 'The Woods' by Danza Macabra. The mix then rises into Alex Niggemann & Marc Poppcke's 'Keep It On' and Freska's delicious 'Honey From Within' before ending with two perfect examples of what Silicone Soul, moreover, the Darkroom Dubs imprint, does best: deep electronic music.

Sometimes you need to look back to look forward; marking the start of a new decade, Silicone Soul celebrate 20 years since their game-changing breakthrough hit with a brand new remastered version and two new remixes. 

‘Right On, Right On’ and on and on and on… The duo’s iconic Cutis Mayfield sampling single came in many shapes and sizes around the turn of the century. Beginning as ‘Right On 4 Tha Darkness’ in 1999, it then became ‘Right On, Right On’ in 2000 with that legendary hypnotic bongo loop that brought the soaring strings and warm jacking groove together so exceptionally well that another version popped up a year later; with added vocals from Louise Clare Marshall, ‘Right On!’ smashed the UK mainstream, hitting number 15 in the official charts… And led to the Glasgow duo famously declining an offer to go on Top Of The Pops. Two decades later and they still don’t regret that decision.

“We’ve had a lot of remix and licensing requests recently for 'Right On, Right On’ with even a dodgy progressive house cover version appearing back in January. Soma’s release schedule was sadly full, so we thought, f**k it, let’s do a re-release on our own Darkroom Dubs label, and as it’s been 20 years since the first release, we thought it would be perfect timing for an anniversary edition too. Conor Dalton, from Glowcast Mastering in Berlin, was kind enough to remaster the original direct from DAT and to complete the package, we’ve also included a new dynamite remix from Fango, with Matthias Tanzmann revisiting his much-loved remix for a 2020 version.”

Warmer than it’s ever sounded before, the new Glowcast remaster comes complete with remixes from Matthias Tanzmann and Fango. Originally released in 2012 as part of Soma’s own 20 year anniversary, Tanzmann squeezes every ounce of soul possible from the percussion elements while Italian Fango gives ‘Right On Right On’ a right old shoeing with a massive lolloping disco bassline, marching pianos and an injection of funk positivity 2020 has sorely missed so far.

20 years deep, still taking us through the darkness, still focused on a bright future. We need music like this now more than ever. Stay tuned for more Darkroom Dubs dispatches very soon.
