Your smile was but grief & your nature decay,

Then the whistling executioner 
Sharpened her swords with a frog,

Who croaked his final words at me
"Put down your head on the log"

When I lost all my hope, you'd stolen her rope
And I thought you would set me free,

But you tied my neck to the executioners back
And left us alone by the tree.

And  now, one year later, I'm wearing 
Your black leather coat and your hat,

Which were bought sixty winters ago 
And you left them with me to forget.
