The 125th installment of the art:cast series comes in three parts and was recorded live at Torture the Artist's event at Luna Club, Kiel on November 26th, 2021. The webzine and Luna invited electronic music icon and Panoramabar-resident Iron Curtis for that occasion, who was musically accompanied by Torture the Artist head Holger Breuer and Luna mainstay Friz07. The sets come in the order the artists played that night but perfectly portray the artist's musical (current) preferences. Starting off with some proper (Deep) House tunes, it's Holger Breuer warming things up in the heat of the Luna basement for Johannes Paluka alias Iron Curtis, who guides the crowd through his musical  potpourri that varies between Rave, House, Acid or Techno before Friz07 comes in with a slight deep, tech and minimalistic vibe to round things off.

Who the hell is Donna Tony, you might ask. Well, he is not fully sure either. In a way, he is the new kid on the block. In another, he is an ancient figure having been deeply involved in the music scene, hosted parties and DJ sessions in Amsterdam and Sweden, for many years as the founder of Silky Tunes. 

Born in Sweden and delivered to the world by a Finnish mother, the first seeds of Donna Tony and his label Silky Tunes, were sown deep into the colorful jungles of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2016. Influenced by his journey throughout Brazilian landscapes, his time in Copenhagen and Amsterdam, Silky Tunes quickly grew into a party and music label in its own right, and the perfect platform for Donna Tony to keep up with his roaming spirit for the rest of his life.

Like all good things in life, everything comes back full circle. In his sets, Donna Tony draws on his passion for indigenous cultures and spiritual contexts, especially influenced by productions picked up from the southern hemisphere. Drawing from a playful mixture of 90’s transcendental house, disco, boogie, and overall wavy and floaty cues, a typical Donna Tony set is built on the balance between the dark and the bright side of dance music - always produced with a gentle touch of Donna and a punch of Tony.

Scarlett O’Malley is truly a woman of many talents. DJ’ing, hosting, presenting, writing, podcasting, promoting, producing, voice over acting… you name it, she can probably do it.

Today it's her DJ pursuits that take centre stage. Soul - in its many forms - was her entry point into the music world, setting the wheels in motion for her passion to turn into her vocation. But in a club set you’ll hear her digging through punchy vocal house, chunky 90s cuts, percussive breaks and more - that said, there’s always a distinct soulfulness running through everything she plays.

On top of sharing these nuggets in the booth, Scarlett's always had a commitment to researching the roots and the origins of the music she loves, and because of that she really knows her onions.

2022 was a big year for her and she's not slowing down anytime soon. Following milestones like becoming one of the faces of Fred Perry and hosting her first BBC Radio doc, she's keeping things moving by breathing new life into her The Soul Exchange project by stepping away from events and moving into the world of reissues, and taking her Club Cowgirl parties to festivals across the UK.

Scarlett's mix for us today is all about house music. She describes it as choppy, chunky, groovy and, inevitably, full of soul - in short it 'will have every part of your body moving'.

@SteveHuerta, who now goes solely by Huerta, is a producer and DJ originally from California now residing in Berlin. Rising to prominence with a big release on Dirt Crew Recordings with friend, roommate and fellow Golden State native Urulu several years ago, he has since become a household name in underground circles. Releasing mainly on Amadeus Records, he has also continued to release various bits on the aforementioned Dirt Crew and more recently an EP on Let's Play House. His approach has definitely matured over the years, evolving into a crisp, polished sound taking shape from various influences while still being able to explore different avenues of house music.

Not only is Huerta an adept producer, but he's also a skilled curator behind the decks. Living in Berlin he's had plenty of opportunities to play to audiences in his current hometown as well as abroad, honing his skills and crafting his sound. Today, he's kindly provided us with a fluid selection of tunes while also answering some questions for the latest instalment in our MIXED BY/ series.
