The 90s era of Dancehall in Jamaica was important because it helped to shape and define the genre, while also contributing to its growth and evolution. It brought new sub-genres, international recognition, social commentary, and innovation, which all helped to cement Dancehall’s place in Jamaican music and culture.

Shocking Vibes Production is a Jamaican record label that was founded in the late 1980s by Patrick Roberts. The label is known for its contributions to the Dancehall scene and has released music from several prominent artists, including Beenie Man, Lady Saw, Silver Cat, Tonto Metro & Devonte, Alley Cat, and much more. In this 90’s Old Skool Juggling, we show respect to this powerhouse record label from the 90s.

Buju Banton was born in Kingston, Jamaica in a poor neighborhood called Salt Lane. Buju is a nickname given to chubby children that means breadfruit and was given to him by his mother as a child. Banton is a Jamaican word that refers to someone who is a respected storyteller, and it was adopted by Myrie in tribute to the deejay Burro Banton, whom Buju admired as a child.
