"Guinea Congo" is first single from Lagartijeando's upcoming album '7 Caminos'. The track features reggaeton style drums, funky percussion, Afrobeat style horns, 70s-inspired keyboard melodies with gentle background vocals from Lagartijeando himself. The tune showcases his innate knack for combining disparate elements into tracks that cohesively work together, culling influences from African, Afro-Brazilian, Caribbean, and 1970's funk music into something natural and danceable.

The Moonlit Miles were a loose alt-Americana/ ambient country collective performing and recording around Burlington, Vermont around Y2K. The Old Loft was a rehearsal space/studio run by Fretless Ed, and many local musicians would hang out there on lazy Sunday afternoons, jamming and putting together songs. At some point enough material was collected to make a demo album to shop around to labels, but the constant turnover in the band and the slacker nature of the whole project resulted in that never happening. 
Fortunately, those 8-track reels were stored well, and cassettes circulared from friend to friend over the years.  Now we are pleased to announce the release of these archival songs and jams, remastered, edited, and mixed into a continuous 45 minute flow. Listeners will find this to be way ahead of its time in exploring alt-americana, ambient country, and more, referencing influences like Opal, Ry Cooder, Cowboy Junkies, Dan Lanois, and The Hired Hand OST..

NOTE: This is one of a series of recordings I made during the night of March 21-22, as I hiked up the south slopes of El Yunque National Forest in the dead of the night. At first I was overwhelmed by the choruses ... they were much too cacophonous to suit my fancy. But at higher altitudes in the wee hours of the morning, things settled down and I got some very nice mixtures of sounds ... magical and hypnotic soundscapes that soothed my mind and drew me effortlessly and completely into my natural surroundings, erasing any thoughts of the outside world.

Don your headphones and join me on a windy ridge in Great Smoky Mountains National Park! Listen and enjoy a full 15-minutes of soothing binaural immersion featuring a panoply of bird songs typical of high altitude spruce-fir forest in the southern Appalachian(be sure to listen using headphones … otherwise it may sound like a bunch of noise!).

It was mid-May in the year 2000. I was traveling in an old Chevy van and had just spent the night on the ridge. I rose at the break of dawn and was disappointed at all the wind. Deciding not to be stymied, I ventured into the spruce-fir stand and soon homed-in on a Winter Wren, singing excitedly from a low branch. I quickly set up my soundscape microphone, placed it in a special homemade "wind box," and then hit record. 

I'm quite pleased with this spacious soundscape. It features the songs and calls of a number of birds, plus a mammal sound. At the beginning, note the prominent songs of a Winter Wren and a Black-capped Chickadee, followed over time by the caws of American Crows, scratching sounds of a Red Squirrel, the squeaky songs of a Gray Catbird, the rising zhree-zhree-zhree-zeeee of a Black-throated Blue Warbler, the sprightly pleased, pleased, pleased t'meet'cha! of a Chestnut-sided Warbler, and finally the soft musical whistles of a Robin.

Recorded 7am, 18 May 2000, along trail to Clingman's Dome.

Wind Over the Ridge

A magical frog and insect chorus recorded in a swampy area deep in the rainforest. Listen in particular for the remarkable and otherworldly mumbling and churring calls of an unidentified frog, periodically sounding off from trees overhead. Note: This is a binaural recording so please listen using headphones.

Born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I now live in Savannah, Georgia, with my remarkable and understanding wife Sarah and my sons Finn and Talon, who constantly astonish me. I make films such as the award-winning shorts THE STREET CLEANER and YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. I write, direct, produce, manage, edit, and handle locations for film and television, including the Style Network's Emmy-nominated series RUBY, Tyler Perry's THE HAVE AND THE HAVE NOTS, and five feature-length movies this past two years (CRACKERJACK, UNTOUCHED, BREAKING AT THE EDGE, ENCHANTED AMORE/FOUR SENSES, and ABRAHAM LINCOLN vs ZOMBIES). Telling important stories, by nurturing an idea from concept to completed vision, is what I am passionate about. I also write fiction and poetry, make music, and photograph artistic nudes.
