I like how the bass rhythm is written in the verses, it sounds like the four bars are looping, when in fact its 8 bars that's looping, very subtle difference there! Song reminds me of an electro version of a Marcy Playground song we all know

Hailing from Stockholm, couple Linnea and Joel Edin, aka The Forest & The Trees are a striking addition to the canon of quintessential bittersweet indie-pop to emerge from Sweden in recent years. Creating delicately crafted songs, their work showcases a talent for combining playful melodies with the perfectly balanced harmonies of their vocals.

Having originally played together in Joel’s band Tupelo Honeys, they formed in 2008, before releasing their self-titled debut in 2010. After playing throughout Europe they released their “What We Lost” EP in 2011, featuring remixes from the likes of NIVA and Houses.

In the years that followed the ennui of daily life kicked in, and when Linnea lost her job and Joel found himself bored of his studies, inspiration to write new songs proved hard to find. The couple decided to “take action and leave the Swedish darkness”, and moved to Valencia for four months, a city they’d first visited and fallen in love with when they'd played there several years earlier.

The influence of their time in the city is palpable, lending their new album a sun-drenched optimism, despite having only written one song (lead track “You’re In My Skin”) during the duration of their stay. It’s a noticeable shift in mood, and one that the duo acknowledges: “Whereas our first album evolved around escaping and fear of growing up, the new songs are mostly about facing that fear and dealing with stuff instead of running away. We decided to name the album Missions, from one of the songs on the album, because it sums it up, it’s more positive. These songs are more about facing problems and doing something about them, rather than escaping.”

Drawing on the music they listened to as teenagers, bands like Popsicle, The Cardigans and The Cocteau Twins, has driven their sound to develop precision, while retaining a balance of the carefree and complex. Such a middle ground was hard to find, so despite early plans to produce the record themselves, they eventually decided to bring in Johannes Berglund, who'd previously worked with The Radio Dept. Shout Out Louds and The Knife, seeking some necessary objectivity. “We’ve been acquainted with Johannes for a few years and we totally love the work he’s been doing. So we asked if he wanted to mix our single “Putting Down the Gun” which he did and we were so pleased with the result,” they explain. “It felt like he really understood what we wanted and could help us with that final push. He really works with his gut and puts so much feeling into his mixes - we’ve been very lucky to get to work with him.”

Some Words from Thomas Bäz (label founder)

12 years ago, when the first release on the label was published, I never thought it will make circles like this. It's been a long time and I want to say thank you to all the people who believed in the idea and supported me over the years. The first 10 years I managed Klangscheiben from my hometown Steinach, which is a small town in Thuringia, Germany, before I moved to Berlin to expand my network. Some strong connections are grown to France, Switzerland, the U.S., but especially to Canada. 
I met so many lovely people and I'm really happy I did this step to discover the world of abstract, groovy and special music and put it onto the label.
Let's celebrate this wonderful moment with our event Birds Day.

Hi. Welcome back. We’re very pleased to present a new record by Ian Wyatt, performing under the name Local Artist. He’s one of the co-founders of Mood Hut, and you may remember him from his music on the Proibito and Rhythm Section record labels. You may also have checked out his releases under the moniker Slow Riffs, including the Gong Bath 12” from 2015. 

This wonderful record can be played at any time of the day or night and is also a great thing to play in the home or in the club. Drums, bass, keyboards, as well as other sounds and outboard effects (including delay) are all present. The artwork was done by Logan Sturrock and Local Artist. Dancer / Dreamer will be available in vinyl and digital formats this summer. We hope you enjoy!

A progressive and passionate producer and dj, Ciel joins our series in style, offering a carefully crafted 80 minute insight into Toronto's scene, her hometown. We'll leave it to her to explain in a little more detail below...

"My past year has taken me on some incredible trips to places I never dreamed I'd visit. But at the end of every jaunt I look forward to returning home to Toronto. For me personally, having roots in the city I cut my teeth in as a DJ is super important. On a bigger scale, it is paramount that I rep my city in my work as a DJ and producer and future label-owner. There is so much incredible music being made by folks in my city on cracked copies of Ableton or carefully-curated collections of gear acquired through exhausting 9-5 jobs. But compared to other scenes, we lack platforms and labels to showcase some of this work. Due to any number of reasons such as geography, lack of industry connections, and general ignorance about our scene, artists struggle to find a place to put their music out, and many often end up self-releasing rather than send demos out to European labels who ignore them. This mix is for them. It is my hope that through mine & others' efforts more DIY dance labels will sprout up in our city and that labels in other parts of the world will pay attention to my home."

Brand new signing Maze Hill is the brain child of producer Andy Highmore, vocalist Holly Bestic and singer and spoken word artist Joshua Idehen. 

You may be familiar with Josh from his work with legendary UK production outfit LV on the critically acclaimed Routes album. Or even from his output in London based Afro funk, punk collective Benin City.

With Maze Hill Joshua flexes his vocal chords a little more harmonically alongside the gorgeous tones of Holly Bestic and it is a genuine treat to hear his vocal talents in this context for the first time.  

The trio brings together their influences including Beach House and Grizzly Bear with the production delivering reverbed out electronica, and more than a little soul and even jazz elements. 

We think this will also be warmly welcomed by fans of the likes of Little Dragon and of course other Wah Wah artists including Stac and Scrimshire. 

On Long Haul drum machines meat lush electronic keyboards and a deeply catchy vocal hook that describes the band's attitude and approach right from the start. 

On this first single we're also giving you a stunning second track 'I Can Be Your Light'. This was one that first drew us to the band and we hope it will have the same effect on you. A tender and beautiful duet with a little more going on under the surface than your average piano ballad.

And to truly round off the debut in style we have a killer down beat remix from production masters LV.

Maze Hill will be doing a stripped down live set at our event at Scala on November 10th and will be delivering their debut album in the first half of 2013.

Maze Hill - Long Haul (Radio edit)

Her third single on Wah Wah 45s, “Robots and Angels”, roundsof what’s been a landmark year from this young lady, with a run of festivals and gigs that ranged from playing to a packed house at The Hootananny in Brixton to supporting new folkers Bellowhead at The Towersey Festival this summer. She’s been described as “simply brilliant” by Gilles Peterson on BBC6Music, who also made it his Album of the Week earlier this year. This final single from the much loved debut album, “Barefoot In Your Kitchen”, is a pseudo-festive delight complete with Bev’s trademark ‘instruments’ including a drill, zippers and the culinary untensil naturally. 

Remixes come courtesy of one of our faourite producers of the moment, Claws For?, who recently worked his magic with Scrimshire’s “Alignment” and here again takes us straight to the dance floor with a sturdy disco/house re-boot. Neapolitan producer, and main man behind the excellent Really Swing imprint, Quiroga delivers a quirky, low slung remix that’s a bit of a favourite here at Wah Wah Towers.

Silver Pools is a post-punk duo from Toronto, Canada that blends symbolist poetry and protest song with lush synths, electric guitar & mandolin, and a hypnotic drum machine named Oscar.

I make a variety of noises, and listen to many more.
