I've read enough about memory to know that the more memories we have to fit into our brain, the more they lose accuracy - is it a dysfunction to remember certain things more fondly? How am I supposed to tell the difference? I have always tried to counter the idea of 'the grass is greener', and to face my present situation with as much positivity as I can. But what if that part of my brain is right? Maybe things were better before, or could be better if I worked to recapture something I now so desperately miss... Maybe those moments are truly unobtainable now and all I can do is enjoy the feeling of remembering what once brought me joy.

jd-xiにexternal instrumentでmidiデータを送り、ボコーダーを使って録音した。人力ボーカロイドのようなことをしている。このころの歌詞は結構気持ちの悪いことを言っているので自主規制の意味合い。曲に関しては、修学旅行で沖縄に行ったとき民泊先の人の話が制作に対するモチベーション上げてくれたのが強く印象に残る。戦後まもないころ、砂浜で銃弾を集めて売ることで生計を立てていた若者が地中に埋まっていた戦車を見つけるって内容の話。1972年まで他国に占領されていた領土がこの国にあるって事実は、戦争がごく最近のものであることを強く思い起こしてくれる。あと、猪がかわいい名前をつけて飼育されていた思い出。飼うなよ。

This version of the Cuckoo was recorded and performed as part of my IG live stream in late October 2020. I've been working on this song since about 2018, and this is the penultimate draft of my 2020 lyric version. I constructed this variation of the tune on instrumental John Fahey's "Variations On The CooCoo" and studied Clarence Ashley's folk performance of the work. The Taylor 352ce 12 string guitar used for the track was tuned to DADGAD down a minor third.

The cuckoo is a crazy bird and he twitters as he flies.
The cuckoo always cries “Coup! Coup!” Even on the 4th day of July.
The cuckoo is a crazy bird and he warbles as he lies,
With pink eyes, corona plumage, and a lemon crest swirling high

He’s built high nests in Lido; he swings by the isle of Skye.
I’ll bet you all your “Proud Boys” he’ll drain Dubai dry.
He covets tender lillies and pins them in fear,
He suck out their eggs to keep his antibodies clear!

O, Don of diamonds! O, King of clubs! I surmise you from texts of old.
You’ve torn asunder this once Great land many a friend became foe.
So I’m gonna to grow me a hemp farm on a mountain so high
So when ole Willie comes calling, that red haired stranger won’t smoke me dry!

The doctors spinning test tubes developing vaccines
Can’t help but hear the cuckoo song the Fox doth sing.
We’re masking and zooming, and gasping for breath
& That mother’s treating Air Force One like it’s his private jet.

Showers make his corona golden
like Nostradamus seen fortolden
The end of mankind unfolding
Unless we all franchise embolden!

Electing is pleasure, impeachment is grief.
An inconstant lover is worse than a cheat
A tax cheat can but rob you, taking all you’ve got;
An imprudent leader can bury us'll on the spot.

In the haze of Wuhan China, they cleared the forest paved the creeks
The wild beings sought refuge in the markets of the streets
The workers packed in concrete barracks like sardines a crushed tin box
In these inhumane conditions it’s a wonder they didn’t die of pox
When they get their day of hard earned leisure they wander the smoggy streets
Seeking simple pleasures and the tastes of exotic meats
The caged beast shivers with disease & the capitalist he sneers
Unwittingly it shed a molecule clad all in spears.
